How do Harrow Borough fans feel about possibly being transferred to the re-vamped Southern League ?

There's lots to commend it, including avoidance of the M25, two games against the mighty Chesham Utd and the chance to visit several more interesting towns whilst avoiding East Anglia.

With changes likely, why don't the FA fully grasp the nettle and merge the Southern and Isthmian Leagues - with three regional 'premier' divisions fed by geographically-aligned lower divisions ?

At the moment there is no clear policy of how the teams will be distributed and we could go into to any one of the three. Nice to head off in a different direction on a Saturday , but as I see it the Southern as it is being projectd would be a financial disaster, something like 10 coach trips with Tiverton and M Tidfil being a 2 driver job. Players from South East and East London would be reluctant to travel so far.

I take your point FixturesD, - Merthyr and Tiverton are both around 3.5 hours but fairly straightforward drives (at least we will probably see Hereford out of the mix next season) - but Brightlingsea, Lowestoft, Leiston, Needham Market, Margate and Folkestone aren't much easier, particularly if the M25 is playing up.

No doubt someone will calculate the respective mileages involved between staying or going (I won't say 'leaving' or 'remaining', it causes trouble !). We all know sometimes a few more miles is the quicker option.

I don't know about players based in East & South East London playing for Harrow Borough - why would they do that anyway when there are so many other clubs they would have to pass on the way to Earlsmead ? It may be unkind to speculate.

Conversely, the new fixtures west of London should attract a number of players who may be put off by long journeys to East Kent & East Anglia. A move to the Southern League would freshen up the fixture list whilst still giving Harrow
plent y of 'local' games.

Strange as it may seem, historically we have have always recruited from South and East London, at least 6 of the current crop come from that direction. You say Mickey Gee that they pass so many clubs on the way to Harrow but I suggest there is an abundance of players from there. We would love to recruit from West London but I personally think it would be just as much travel going South than the East Anglia/Essex/ Kent league. Don't get me wrong I would love to play new clubs and some of our old rivals like Chesham and Slough but am looking purely from the financial angle and keeping this club alive. Until we sit down and work out the mileage we won't know the best option but at the moment it is all very speculative and I'm not going to do any sums until its all decided. Don't forget the Northern League are sulking, as they will not get administration of another league and might make things awkward for the FA. I am afraid we will have nothing in concrete till after the play offs.

Is it time now for the Isthmian and Southern Leagues to be merged into a league with three 'Premier' divisions ?

Traditionalists and the sentimental (those who, for example, hanker after the return of steam locos to our railways !) would hate this to happen but surely there would be some very useful benefits in terms of running costs and human resources in a combined set up. (To be followed later by one national structure for non-league football , matching the EFL set up).

Whatever comparative mileages show, I believe keeping the local games with Hendon & Staines and the addition of Slough Town (possibly), Chesham & Farnborough would do no harm to gates at Harrow, whilst the deletion of 'M25' games in East Anglia, East Kent and the Sussex coast (inc. Lewes, Whitehawk & Bognor perhaps) mitigate the time and costs of just three trips to Tiverton, Weymouth & Merthyr

Perhaps better still, Chesham & Slough could end up in the Isthmian !

In the end , I wonder if lobbying by Chairmen will have any influence once lines are drawn on maps ?

Regardless of what each league is called, that is what we will have next season. The Northern Premier League will pretty much be he same, minus a couple if ex Southern League teams. The rest will be split between three division s as you suggest.

As a Supporter. I very much hope we are in the South West Division. 8-10 trips to Kent & Essex in the South East division does not appeal to me.
We may need a couple of extra coach trips, but also think our attendances will be better in that division so costs should even out.

For a start all East Anglia teams will be in the Central Division next year. To the Southern League long trips list you need to add Poole , Taunton and possibly Salisbury. Lovely journeys all of them but too costly.

I do agree that Southern league clubs seem to be well supported and a home game with Slough would go close to providing the kind of revenue we used to get from the Wealdstone games without the need of employing professional stewards. I forgot to include Dorchester on my list of long Southern journeys.

The link at the top of this tread has been updated.
With Hartney W!intney & Walton Casuals winning their play offs. The prediction is for Leatherhead & Dorking to go in the Southern league leaving us & Hendon in the Isthmian.
