Time for Non-League season to change ?

Frozen pitches, water logged pitches, freezing cold evenings & afternoons etc. all combine to leave clubs with heavy fixture congestion at the end of the season, placing unfair burdens on some clubs chasing promotion or play-off places or trying to avoid relegation. It's not fair on the Clubs or the players who mostly have full-time jobs.

I'd like to see non-league football adopt a season running from March to November, leaving Dec, Jan & Feb to the Premier League etc. with their under-soil heating and pitch management resources.

The game could then also be of greater interest to TV companies and would certainly make for far fewer postponements and more comfortable viewing, particularly for the older supporters, mentioning no names !

However sensible, it won't happen, for flimsy reasons like the few players who want to play cricket, clubs that share grounds with cricket clubs etc. Committees are all well and good but Dictatorships get things done !

What do others think ?

This could never happen. The non league pyramid is part of the whole English pyramid system including the Football League and Premier League and is all part of the English FA. You couldn't possibly have part of the pyramid playing between March - November and the other playing August - May. Let's say the Premier League and Football League play from August to May and Non League changes from March to November, how would promotion and relegation work?

A team gets promoted from the Conference National or whatever it's called these days to League 2. They get promoted in November and would then have to wait till August for the new season to begin. Teams that get relegated from League 2 in May would have to wait until the following March for the new season to begin. That's completely unrealistic. For that reason alone, your proposed idea could never happen unless of course the Football League and Premier League also moved their seasons from March to November.

Not for me i'm afraid Geemickey. I take your points about fixture congestion etc but my solution to that would be to go back to 22 teams in division instead of 24 and maybe lose a cup or two?
For purely selfish reasons , i love my football in the winter, it makes those long dark weeks and nights bearable!! There is something special about football under floodlights although i imagine clubs might like the idea of cutting down on their electricity bills.
Always a relevant debate though - i wonder how others see it.

Never really thought about it to be honest, not a bad idea I guess but as most have said here, it's never going to happen.
On saying that though I wouldn't mind starting the season on the first Saturday in August or last Saturday in July with a two week break in January.
That enforced break could then be used for clubs who have got a fixture pile up to play catch up if the weather in January is okay.
Mind you I do realise that this could even have its drawbacks.

Not for me either.
But we must not ever have a 24 team league again.
It would make sense to continue for a week or two into May like we used to thou.
