My Favourite Away Trip Of All Time!
Im afraid this still a bit of the nostalgia bug l havent shaken off. After Saturdays "experience" of the spartan conditions at Hartley Whitney lve given it some thought what was my fav trip.Well Telford springs to mind as we won 2-0 in that Trophy Semi 1st Leg in 1983 and all their so called fans such bad Losers started banging the side of the coach as we were Leaving. But we got there 10mins Late as a tyre burst just as we passed Villa Park getting there! Northampton was good with their fine Stadium and Dorchester this year very enjoyable. But my fav was in 1979 when Boro played at Harwich and Parkeston on the Suffolk/Essex Coast in Isthmian Divs1 going with Dad as a kid and their ground right near the sea and l remember they played in Black and White stripes.l often wonder what became of Harwich and Parkeston! If any one else has a fav trip to an away ground they have visited please share on the forum. As Long as you dont mention Hartley Whitney or dare l say Lower Mead but l have to admit it was a good atmosphere for those derbies in the old days! I hope thats ok to say!

They're still going. Dropped down to the depths of the local Essex leagues for a time. Now back in Eastern Counties Div. 1 South. That's one notch down from the division that reguarly inflicted the likes of Lowestoft, Leiston, Needham, Dereham and Wroxham on the Isthmian before this season's reorganisation. Wivenhoe, who were in the Isthmian Premier for a while 30 years ago, are also down there, along with the ressies of Braintree and Brightlingsea. Biggish town. Wouldn't be the greatest surprise to see them climb back up to the Isthmian fairly soon.
Strange how clubs from remote locations suddenly shoot up leagues and disappear. Minehead would be my favourite example. Came second in the Southern League just before the Alliance/Conference started and won at Swansea in the F.A.Cup. Long been back in the depths of Zummerzet football though.

Thank you Morgs for explaining that.l saw on their website they were offering trials for players at their training sessions and hoping to get back into senior football soon.l remember it took around 3hours to get there! I hope Harwich and Parkeston do come back one day back to the Isthmian League as lve got a soft spot for them!

Hi Terry,
I used to go to a few away trip with my Dad. I think we were able to get onto the team coach, which if my memory is correct, was a smart silver coach from Whitefriars. My favourite trip would have to be Bishops Stortford. Mainly because we were taken to Southend afterwards to see the lights (a much smaller version to Blackpool). I believe there was an entertainment park with Wall of Death and other sideshows at the Kursall.
Tony

Hello Tony thank you for sharing that memory.lm not sure l ever went to Bishop Stortford.l always went with Dad from 1975 to around 1980.We went to great places Like l mentioned Harwich and Parkeston.l found they are playing in Thurlow League Divs1 of all Leagues.God knows where that is in the pyramid! My second favourite was definitely Faversham the people were friendly l think it was 1975 and may have been the first coach trip and l can remember being so excited about the trip! It was just so marvellous visiting so many places. The season a bit Like the good old days lve been to Beaconsfield Farnborough Hartley Witney Staines and Dorchester which was really good and fingers crossed Gosport Boro soon.l feel its Like Whickers World!
