1958/59 team players

Hi. On checking the listing of players for the above season I didn't see Eamon's name. His surname was Hogan and I thought he played in goal in the cup tie at Horsham. A good shot stopper but his kicking was poor. I remember going to the Oval with my father to see the game against Corinthian Casuals and thinking what a strange ground for football.

Hi. Middxwanderer,

Many thanks for your reply and correcting me in thinking that Eammon Horgan was our goalkeeper in the cup match against Horsham in 1958/59. Do you know who was in goal that day? I had forgotten how successful Tom Loftus-Tottenham and Derek Healey were in their short time with us. My father took me to quite a few away games, sometimes on public transport, and other times I'm sure we managed to get on the team coach - if that was possible!! I remember how surprised we were when we heard that Tom had signed a Hungarian international - especially since they inflicted those defeats recently on us. Us lads at the club were joking that perhaps Kovacs was the equivalent surname in Hungary as 'Smith' was in England. By the way. I repaid my father for all the times he took me to those away games by taking him to Wembley to see Swindon (where I've now lived for a number of years) beat Arsenal in the League Cup Final. What a day that was!!!!

Regards.

Tony
