Weston and Hayes

The less said about Weston the better. However, highlights show the first penalty was a good tackle by Imran and that the second one was a harsh red card for Preddie. From that point it’s backs to the wall.

Against Hayes today we started really well, pressed as a team and created some openings. Good to get Ewington off the mark and Lawal looks a handful up there with him. Typically - another defensive injury, this to James Taylor, from a late sliding challenge has meant a switch of positions for Sharman and Biler on. The lack of height told as Hayes scored straight away from a free kick. The injury to Alderson looked bad too and surprised the Hayes player got off scott free.

Second half - penalty to Hayes (seems we can never get over the likelihood of conceding one), however James Ewington should have had one later on, through on goal, he had his shirt pulled and therefore the ball got away from him. Ref didn’t give anything. Had he seen it, it would have been a penalty and probably a red as no intention of playing the ball (unlike Preddies v WSM).

A pretty even game. Injuries costing us like vs Hanwell. Let’s hope for an improvement in results now…

Weston are a good side and would probably have put 3 or 4 past us without the help from the ref in the first ten minutes.
Today v Hayes - the two injuries before half time had a big impact on the game. Aldersons injury looked nasty straight away.
Not sure why we didn't have an U23 CB on the bench (Moses) today? Getting a 5ft 5 full back to slide into centre back didn't work at Weston and unsurprisingly didn't work again today.
Physically out matched again. Not sure how to change that without drafting in several new players, which is unlikely given our small budget.
Now, whilst it was good to see Steve back on the sideline after he bravely opened up about his current struggles. The sight and sound of his screaming 'it's not f**King good enough' throughout the second half at the players clearly stressed was rather concerning.
People's health and wellbeing are more important than football.

Totally agree with regards to shifting Sharman inside. I think the loss of Mansfield was disappointing. I’m surprised they haven’t shifted Songolo in there at times. I know they like him in midfield and it’s where they predominantly played him in pre season, but he’s tall and strong. Having said that - he did give away the penalty yesterday…if we can get him and Uche in CM together, that’ll be some force!

If we can get our team fit then it’s a strong side

Knightbridge
Adenola Preddie Taylor Sharman
Williams Uche Leonard Songolo Moore
Ewington

That leaves options from the rest of the squad like Griffith, Biler, Bryan, Alderson (his injury and short loan deal probably means that’s the end of him), Ladipo, Brown and Lawal, with the added depth of Bloom, Moses and Drazic from the u23s seem like we would be strong enough to pick up points.

The good news is that pretty much the whole bottom half lost yesterday and Hendon and Plymouth seem to be in as bad form as we are. 3 of the next 4 games look very winnable so
hopefully by the end of September we will be in a much better position!

Our start does seem be similar to last year's ( we did not have a good August 21 ) and we certainly are not having the "rub of the green" atm with penalties, injuries sending offs etc.

It turned around in that FA Cup game against Ramsgate first week of September and (I think ) we won every game that month. Going from what I thought were relegated certs to play - off hopefuls.

It shows u can turn things around, I certainly hope so . . . . . . . .
