Chesham

Don’t miss the opportunity to see the Borough at ‘The Meadow’ for the visit to Chesham Utd this Saturday.

Enjoy the day – the owners of the club intend to leave their famous old ground, with all its 100+ years of history, in exchange for a new ground on the other side of town, well away from the station which at present is just a decent walk away. I suspect the majority of supporters would prefer to stay put at the Meadow but as far as I know they haven’t been asked, but then they only partially finance the club. It’s called progress.

I suggest you go early to find easy parking at the ground or nearby and to enjoy the excellent friendly social club if you fancy a drink before, during or after the game. Bill’s Burger Van in the ground serves the best burgers in the Southern League. The ground itself is a bit of a mess but it is a lovable mess, with excellent viewing positions from covered terracing and the main seated stand. The match programme is usually a good read. The playing surface is good so no excuses there.

The Borough probably won’t win this one, even if they do play better against good sides. I reckon Chesham should win by a couple of goals. Borough need the points more desperately than Chesham so, as a supporter of both clubs, I’m OK if I’m wrong.

There should be a decent crowd of around 350 – 400, which produces a good atmosphere.

I hope you feel welcome and enjoy the game which, after all, is what it’s supposed to be all about.

Where exactly is the proposed new ground going to be?
I remember reading the local paper 15 years ago and there was talk of building one in Ashley Green?
Boro certainly do need the points. If we're as generous with our defending as we were on Saturday, you'll be improving your goal difference substantially.
However, if the Halifax / Salisbury version of Boro shows up. There could be a point to take back down the Met Line.

I think Ashley Green is the preferred site Major. Berkhamsted-based fans will be happy with that.

Planning approvals etc seem to be taking for ever, which pleases many of us !

A few of will be arriving by 1pm to go via The Generals Arms, George & Dragon and The Queen's Head on route. Anyone wishing to join us will be very welcome.

Chesham seem to have been talking about moving for years . I have a feeling we will be going their for a couple more seasons yet, unless they lose their grading/ ground licence before (as some of the terracing was in ridiculously poor condition at the far end).

2-2 draw .

Don't forget the reason why you're actually in Chesham when you leave the third pub !

I hope you're right about the delay. It is incredible how long it takes to get things done in our country but in this case it pleases lots of the fans.

I agree some of the terracing is poor, particularly on the main stand side of the ground where the steps are, in my opinion, dangerously high - but you do get a great view on the top level !

Nonetheless, the ground has a charm of its own.

Ground grading would appear to be carried out by one man and his guide dog if Winchester and North Leigh have passed.

Winchester and North Leigh were both promoted at the end of last season, so have untill March 31st to achieve the required ground grading for this level.

As we have had the good fortune to visit both in the last fortnight, we will all know that neither will genuinely make the grade, but as we have seen with Hartley Wintney & others in the past (Whitehawk springs to mind), somehow they get passed.

A good point, could have been more but could have been less. Chukwu should have scored again and Leonard missed a tough but good chance. Chesham missed a penalty and Jacob made a good 1v1 save too so pretty even.

I thought Chesham looked pretty average from what I was expecting. I’d imagine they didn’t really get out of first gear today and can play a lot better. We battled hard in midfield which disrupted them. Kandolo and Hart had good games (apart from the penalty).

On to Hanwell

Well deserved point.
How refreshing to see two up front who both caused Chesham problems all afternoon.
Chuks was unlucky with his late chance. It looked like the ball hit a turnip on the allotment just before he went to hit it and ended up shinning it over.
The side looked balanced and with depth on the bench and more to come back from injury.
Hopefully Ezra is back soon as he's been outstanding since Christmas. Him and Sonny are the most solid partnership from my eyes.
Now to build on the result and performance by putting in the same effort at Hanwell on Tuesday.

Post match interview with Chesham joint manager.
The interviewer must also do their twitter feed.
Complaining on Saturday about 'gamesmanship' when Prince went down injured to delay the penalty being taken and also brought it up during the interview.
The fact that he had to be substituted after treatment and was on crutches after the game kinda puts that dumb allegation to bed.

Yep and there was talk of us turning up and spoiling the game. Think they are disappointed we didn’t roll over for them and actually got stuck in and played to our strengths. They’re a good team which should make the playoffs. I hope they don’t go up as we will lose another close game location wise

I’d forgotten about that late Chuks chance which he skied. I was referring to the one in the first half that the keeper saved from about 6 yards out. That’s the difference between 1 and 3 points
