Earlsmead sold to developers
Views: 16878
The club has agreed to sell the ground to developers.
They are hemorrhaging money and are cash poor but asset rich.
Likely to be 2 seasons left at Earlsmead before being made homeless and looking at becoming tenants elsewhere.
A sad day for football fans in general - not just us Boro supporters.
Unless someone knows a football loving person who is willing to put £100k a year in... Earlsmead will be demolished and replaced by houses and flats.
I don't think the club wanted this to be made public knowledge, however it has already appeared on the Wealdstone forum.
Bad news travels fast as they say.
Boro fans - pop out and buy those euro millions tickets right now.

Yes a very sad day.
The clubs tenure has been extended by many years by the incredible generosity of 2 or 3 people. For that I'm very grateful. We will still have a couple of seasons to play at 'home' & possibly more.
Earlsmead is the only ground in Middlesex that has been a senior football ground used continously by the same club since before ww2.
All others gone to development, I think that is an achievement in its self

Blimey that is shockingly bad news although perhaps not totally unexpected ?
How can the club survive in the long term ?
A very sad day.
Will Wealdsc#m try to buy the club out ?

Any left over monies from the sale will have to be spent on groundsharing. We’re probably never going to find another ground until a lottery winner takes over. Slim chances. Whatever we would spend on renting a ground and paying players, would have to not exceed the revenue income. That’ll be difficult without a permanent home. I suppose lots of clubs survive by ground sharing. So who knows. Here’s to a 3rd round FA Cup run with 3 rounds of being live on the TV.

I think the club would need a miracle to see it's 100th anniversary.

Any ideas where we would be best suited to groundshare.

Let's hope a good price was secured - the land must be very valuable if building permission is secured.
It's time the club stopped relying on a few generous people to fund it.
Presumably the club can stay at Earlsmead for a few years yet - knowing the planning procedures involved it will take years before the ground is lost entirely.
Ground share possibilities may include :
Middlesex Stadium (Hillingdon Borough),
Wealdstone's Grosvenor Vale before or after they move to their new ground,
Northwood, Rayners Lane, Harefield Utd or the ground near the Polish War Memorial on West End Road.
I even wonder whether there is scope at Ruislip rugby club's ground ?
Plenty of clubs have survived loss of their own ground and ground sharing, including Wealdstone, Hendon, Aylesbury Utd, Edgware Town etc.
so it may not be so bad.

The one by Polish war memorial I believe doesn’t have floodlights

Maybe Borough can move or sell their floodlights, along with other bits & pieces from Earlsmead.

Nightmare news. Trying to process the idea of leaving Earlsmead.
Would you rather ground share out of the borough but in the same league
or
Find a permanent place to play in Harrow but have to drop down several leagues to do so?

Either option is likely to lose 50% of the modest fan base - those who wouldn't travel or those who would not be interested in a significantly lower level of football. Revenue would collapse and the future would look very bleak.
If Earlsmead has to close, the replacement must be a local groundshare or a new local ground if the club is to survive and thrive. it would be very sad if it doesn't, after all the love, money and efforts that have been put into the club over so many years.

Fair point,.
A ground share with Rayners Lane would seem like a good solution, suitable for this level and a bus ride away.
Hopefully the club will open up about what's happening soon.

I can’t see us being interested in sharing with Rayners Lane after what Bostock tried pulling on us. They also already share with Broadfields.

I think Bostock has left Rayners Lane?
Good point about Broadfields, I'd forgotten about that. North Greenford's Ground?
I think there is a case to be made for working with the council to find permanent new home in the borough, even if ground grading rules mean dropping down the leagues.
