A word of advice from a Vale fan. There is often a marked difference between what Mr Smurthwaite says and what he does. He has a habit of being a bit cavalier with the truth. He once famously told a meeting of fans for example that, shortly after taking sole control of the club in August 2013 he was prepared to put it into administration. He said he was persuaded not to do this after meeting former chairman and owner, Bill Bell who talked him out of it. This must have been a very interesting meeting because Mr Bell died in February 2013!!

Mr Smurthwaite may well have good intentions but just beware of taking everything he says at face value.
