Thats certainly a part of it. Thing is, the sugar-daddy failures are what we hear about, but (I think) the majority of failures are not down to this.

there is also
* Pressure from supporters (no ambition)
* Over optimistic.
* No contingency. Every penny of expected income is spent.
* They are also fans.

Has anyone ever really come into the Boro' and thrown money about? Perhaps under Phillips but that was not really an individual.

I honestly believe.
1) if owners were upfront and honest with everyone from day-1 supporters will understand. Tough if they don't.
2) Loans (longer than (say) 6 months) should only be issued by banks.
3) "loans" longer than that must be as donations.
