but there lies the crux.

If clubs can't afford to play in these games why are they and more to the point why are the leagues letting this happen?

in three leagues above this, 18 clubs are paying this money for just 3 promotion places.
I can understand the national having it, but not north/south.

If clubs can't afford this, then can they afford to be promoted due to the extra costs and uncertainly?

I still believe that all leagues below FL should have been decided on ppg, with one lucky club being promoted without playoffs.
What has been done is reward failure and IMO the play-offs now are even more a lottery.
