I believe a 'forensic' investigation can take place going back 3 years from the date of liquidation of the old club.

I also believe that 5 years is only a guide & not a hard & fast rule.

The key driver is to demonstrate to the FA that the new club has fulfilled their requirements to assume the heritage of the old/former club, which to their credit Bury AFC have successfully accomplished.
