It is structured differently nowadays.

The Grassroots football clubs at Level 9/Step 5 & below are entered in to the FA Vase.

At this Grassroots level, the Clubs can apply to Sport England for Grants.

The Recreational/Community football clubs at Levels 7 & 8/Steps 3 & 4 are entered in to the FA Trophy, along with the Elite football clubs at Levels 5 & 6/Steps 1 & 2.

At Recreational/Community & Elite level, the Clubs can apply to the Premier League Stadium Fund & the Premier League LED Floodlight Fund for Grants.

These Premier League Grants are not available to Clubs below Level 8/Step 4.

That is why it is essential that the Town secure another promotion, as soon as possible.

Note:

From memory, I recall Atherstone Town being admitted to the FA Cup, when they won the MFL Division One.

All of that said, I think you are correct in what you have said, as to how it worked in the past.
