There could be other footballing reasons too. When Kyle signed the contract, Boro were playing great football, passes through midfield and delivering chances for him to convert. As the season progressed, many of us noticed that long balls through the middle were becoming more common than flowing football moves. IMHO, that may not have been the best match for Kyle's skill set - and that may have made him less happy with his position at Boro.

Of course, I may also have misread the situation - I have no inside knowledge at all.
