The houses opposite the white lion built in the 70s were located in the northern section of the Haunchwood no2 brick yard clay pit which was flooded after abandonment. After ww2 Griff no4 pit obtained a lease from the Arbury esate , who owned the land to tip Colliery spoil in the disused clay hole. Only part of it was filled with spoil and that was where houses were built. The remainder of the pit was.filled and landscaped and is now open space behind Ashdown drive.
