To me, a "big club" are clubs that win things. Boro have NEVER won anything (other than regional leagues).

The crowds may be good; hard to see what other clubs were getting. IN 50s and 60s people didn't have the same transport means and hard to compare clubs from other areas.


This was the final table of Boro's last season before joining Southern League;
I can see why they were a big club then..playing the likes of Worcester City reserves. Take out reserves and 'a' teams then Boro would be a "big club" in that list.....in fact, many are in Boro league now; with only Burton higher

Home crowds in that season were circa 1700
