Urban Myth. Nothing to do with The FA

It was not the FA who who chose the Title "Town" or who prescribed that the word Borough could not be used. And that is why they were "allowed" to revert to it.

(Obviously) a name change was required. But there was no embargo on the word Borough being in the title.

I had this in writing from the FA. It could have been (for example) AFC Nuneaton Borough. Or variations on that theme. As with Halifax and Telford. And indeed, with Bury

I remain convinced that this urban myth was exploited as an opportunity to instigate a name change by yet more "businessmen " An ill fated merchandising strategy. Ill-fated because sales did not quite take off as expected.

Out of the 7,000 sorry 5,000 at the last play offs, how many "Town" shirts were worn?

Er....none.
