Yeovil and Dorchester

In March ‘76 I was a student in London. Caught a train to Yeovil on Wednesday afternoon, saw Boro’ scrap a very rare win 1-0 on the Huish slope (Malcolm Phelps). I was outnumbered 2000-1 by home fans. Caught train back, changing trains (and stations) at Dorchester, arriving at Waterloo in early hours. Still made lecture at 9am. Tell the kids of today and they wouldn’t believe it!

My visit to Dorchester was another midweek game, in May ‘79. A 1-1 draw (Smithers) notable for a backs-to-the-wall defensive display by Boro’, marshalled by manager Roy Barry, playing as sweeper in his first competitive game for several seasons. Apparently, Cliff Campbell missed the team bus, so Barry had to step in.

Thanks as always to ‘From Town to Town’ for correcting/confirming my memories of distant events.
