football has changed out of all recognition since the 1950s
through most of the 50's we played in the old * Birmingham league
the top non league was the southern league
not sure about the northern end of football

then football was finely restructured in 1958.... long overdue
attendances at the Boro exploded 4 & 5000 gates were more often than not
with a couple i remember reaching the 6000 + mark.
the initial manager appointed was Angus Morrison

the football league operated a closed door system
many survived by virtue of the closed shop system
ie. voting their mates back in. time after time. no matter what

* your talking of the likes of Fred Slater Stan James Arthur Corbett & Bill Jessop etc etc

also all the above is from memory. + i watched a lot of midlands top flight stuff.
from the 56 season onwards often wnen we were away
(so again) its all from memory.
