I too thought the group that took over the club in the nineties gave us supporters reason for optimism. A large group, with shared responsibilities, which gave stability, and also success on the field. The appointment of George Rooney, along with his assistant, and successer, John Barton got promotion, and also a FA cup run. This of course was soured by the bonus issue., led by Bradder, which led to relegation. Were the board resposible? Quite possibly. Bringing Phillips back to the club though was a master stroke, which gave us one of the most successful and watchable teams we have had.
