Nuns Statement

Statement from Nuneaton RFC Committee

Barriers have been erected on Nuneaton RFC land to protect our land rights.

We would like to make clear that we wish Nuneaton Borough Football Club and its supporters well and hope an agreement for a groundshare between our two Clubs can be reached for this season.

Unfortunately the football club haven’t been in a position to sit down with us at this point and haven’t replied to some correspondence.

The right to access Nuns land is only part of any groundshare agreement and so clearly in the absence of an agreement Nuns have to protect our land rights.

So the barriers are simply performing the role of a fence protecting those rights and stopping unauthorised access.

We hope the two Clubs can work together and that this can all be sorted quickly to benefit both clubs and sport in Nuneaton.

Boro have authorised access down the drive to the gates behind tea bar as part of deeds.
They do not have access to turnstiles without a GSA.

The owner of the Boro ground has access down the drive and around the back of the tea bar to Boro land.
It doesn't automatically grant permission to go to the home and away turnstiles.
That has been covered previously by the GSA.

It will give the opportunity to let people in for the Cov game not going in via turnstyles so they can't be counted, unknown stewards with wads of cash in their hands and an official attendance half/third of what it actually is.

What I certainly hope is the Nuns have entered into a dialog with NS (assuming he is now the legal owner) before resorting to this. If not, that's worrying; if so, that's worrying :)

For me they are being petty for the sake of being petty because they can't get their own way, I understand they can legally do what they want but they come across as being very childish because they can't share the pitch for a peppercorn rent.

It is very much bully boy tactics, "if you don't accept our ridiculous demands we will blockade your turnstiles" lol okay then.

There has to be an answer - just don't have a clue what that may be.

But for what price? From what I recall before they wanted to play on the pitch for next to nothing which I do not think is fair especially since rugby will cut the ground up even more and increase maintenance costs.

It is not ridiculous to want to play on it, I do not even care if they played every game on it, I just think they should pay a proper rent for it.

Listen, I totally get your point here but here is mine.

Rugby club want to play on pitch and expect ground owners to pay for its upkeep.
Football club want access and should expect the owners of that land to upkeep it.

So why is the driveway a complete fucking mess? I do not think it is fair for the nuns to expect one thing when they do not provide a safe access in the first place.

This is not about the drive that Borough have access granted by the deeds, but the Nuns land fans use to get to turnstiles.

Well,that is the theory.

No I do understand your point and understand it is different pieces of land but my point was that its a knock on effect.. rugby club don't keep upkeep their access anyway so why should they expect ground owners to pay for pitch upkeep and then in turn, Boro could say you sort the drive out then we will let you play on the pitch in return for access. I doubt it is as clear cut as has been made out, I was just trying to put a different POV across and look at "bigger picture" than just the small strip of land we are talking about originally.

I have not seen anything that says they have been offered any terms for this season. I would suggest the nuns are just being pragmatic. They want a GSA for this season but are getting no answers. Perhaps this is just a way of getting someone's attention. Some of the comments on here are a bit hysterical IMO

A statement was issued , did he actually issue it ?
I have heard the same as Dover , that apart from phoning NS and offering him the ground he has taken no active roll in the club since the end of last season , and i don't think he has any interest in doing so . Before anyone asks well who's running it , that's why we have no bank account , utilities & until a few weeks ago no players , staff & no maintenance was being done on the pitch or ground . Basically before NS brought the ground the club was dead to all intent & purposes . It isn't now by the way , but it's going to take time to sort out the mess .

There's no doubt that if NS had purchased the ground we wouldn't have a club at all for next season , let alone in the NN . LT did at least find a way to keep the club going , but apart from that he ran it into the ground . I don't believe he did it on purpose he just didn't have the business knowhow and financial clout to run a club at this level .

However, what the chances do you think he will get a court order to do just that. The court MAY decide the Nuns have to move them.

As things stand, the skips are a) "Owned" by the Nuns and b) on Nuns land.

That would be illegal and would be a massive negative against Boro-Stadiums.

My understanding is the skips are/were on Nuns land, so they are entitled* to put them wherever they want.
To put on Nuns pitch would require permission, which I have a sneaky feeling he would not get.

* This is the debatable point. I could not put a 30 foot fence on my land that blocked sunlight (or access) to a neighbours land. The question no-one seems to know the answer to is exactly what access the Nuns have to give to Boro-stadiums.

I’m in a time zone 7 hours in front of you. Always too quick to comment on someone else’s post as usual.

Good afternoon, whatever time zone you are in doesn't change the fact you are replying to people who posted many hours before, telling them to keep up.

It is you that needs to keep up.

Right mr idiot, understand this. Last year around the 8th 9th Oct I posted on here that I would not be posting for a while due to a family berievment, in fact my mother. Greg, who I had been have a bit of a ding dong with poster about 1 minute later "some things are more important than football topics". A very gracious comment. 1 minute you, dick head, posted FUCK THE FUCK OFF. And that is a measure of you as a person and complete asshole. So just FUCK THE FUCK OFF.

I am struggling, some hours later, to figure out the relevance of this bizarre anecdote.

I quite possibly told you to fuck the fuck off, but it had nothing to do with your mother dying.

To even suggest it did, as you have, is scummy, cheap and disingenuous.

But I expect nothing better of you, you bizarre and twisted person.

They want to play on the main pitch , they don't want to pay .They feel they have an historical right to do this and have had some success in using bully boy tactics previously . Simple really .

Is that fact?

That is not how I was led to understand it.

The main pitch is an aside, an incidental. A red herring if you will.

The Nuns want Boro to pay for access to turnstiles.

I'd heard that and just figured it was there way of being arseholes over the ground issue . Sort of if we can't play on your pitch you can't walk on our grass , sort of thing .

I agree totally agree.

It needs sorting for good, not on a season by season basis.

Does not need to sorted out in court though. I really hope its not sorted out there but by an agreement and common sense.

How many times has there been agreements between the two parties?

It needs sorting out finally and fully and with legal findings the only option imo.

Time for nuns to put up or shut up.
Smurth has the financial clout to sort nuns once and for all,I think if Smurth owned the club as well as the ground he would take nuns to court.
If nuns wish to sabotage what plans Smurth have for the ground ,then I think he will take nuns to court.

Nuns are fast running out of Boro fans who once cared about nuns.time to fuck them off once and for all.

Just one point here. If Boro are paying NS for use of the ground, it's reasonable for Boro to expect unfettered access. It's up to NS to organise this, so he must be the one to deal with Nuns. I'm sure it's not an insurmountable problem.

But if Nuns want to share the ground, they deal with football club, if they want to sort access the deal with NS.
The two bodies are no longer under one owner...

I suppose that depends on the nature of the deal. Maybe I misunderstood, but I believe the deal is that Boro simply hire the ground for the time they need to use it, and NS was also looking for other avenues to charge people (eg Nuns) to use it on a similar basis. If that's the case, then NS is responsible for ensuring that there is access.

Of course, it may be that the agreement is as it was under the previous ground owners, where Boro effectively "sublet" to the Nuns for them to play there. In that case, Nuns and Boro need to reach an agreement.

Do we know for certain which of these scenarios applies (or even if neither applies)?

I know which one used to apply.
It was always Boro 're to g and sub letting.
I have not heard or seen anything to suggest that has changed. Boro Leisure still have a lease with Boro Stadiums. No reason for that to change.
