Off topic- Cricket- Warwickshire CCC

Shockingly bad side this season.

Knocked out the 50 over cup at the first attempt with 2 wins from 9 games.
Bottom of the county championship, set to lose heavily again.

Lots of senior players left, replaced by kids from the academy, despite hosting the T20 finals day every year and a test match every year. Really poor investment and recruitment.

Well, an upturn in form since I posted this

Warwickshire 391 including a century from Hose against a bowling attack including Stuart Broad.

Nottinghamshire 90-8 in reply!

As a member of Warwickshire ccc I would like to make a few comments. 1st of all they play 8 royal London matches and not 9. As for the side Ian bell arguably still one of the best top order batsmen in the country is out with injury. Ollie stone one of the fastest bowlers in the country and toured the West Indies with England during the winter is also out with injury. Tim ambrose and Sam Hain have also been out injured as is Ryan sidebottom. Let’s get these players back in the side and then see where we are

Liam Norwell having an inspired debut.

I take back my comments ;)

If we soon manage to get a side out, in the championship, along the lines of:

Rhodes, Sibley, Bell, Hain, Banks, Yates/Hose/Lamb, Ambrose, Brookes, Stone, Patel, Norwell/Miles/OHD we will look considerably stronger, you're right.

Feel sorry for Hain 92* with no one able to hang around with him when only chasing 200 over 2.5 days! Poor.

Dismal - the other batsmen in the team only getting 40-odd between them is the problem. Hain is quite a talent, but he cant do it on his own. Think if Bell was out there with him they could of knocked it off pretty easily. Basically only one batsmen per game is having a decent knock, just no partnerships.

My second team Durham thrashed again too – not a good season for me so far. Lets hope England can give me some performances to cheer.

On the subject of Olly Stone, he's back from injury. Playing for the 2nd XI today.

Hoping both he and Belly are back when I watch Warwickshire v Yorkshire at York in 4 weeks time.

PS- I did mention the Hain and Bell injuries below *

PPS- Doing well today, Somerset 64-4.

Ever since I was a kid Warwickshire have seemed to go through cycles of either having really good side or a poor one, seem to be going through a poor cycle at the minute, hardly any household names in the side and just some very average cricketers

Bell and Woakes are class players and very difficult to replace. Olly Stone injured. Ambrose past his best as a batsman. A pace attack of Miles Hanson-Dolby and Brookes not going to bowl sides out. Patel only class bowler. If Sibley does not get runs no body does as was shown today 109 so.

When Stone is back and Woakes when he can i think the bowling is ok. Its the batting thats worrying, i hadn't heard of the lad Rob Yates batting today. Unless Sibley scores well reckon we could easily lose this one from a decent position.

Yates has come through the academy and played a few minor counties games for Staffordshire too.

High hopes for him and Liam Banks by all accounts.

It's Hose who I really don't rate. He's in the same Mould as Ed Pollock- a one day slogger than comes off from time to time.

Trott wasn't properly replaced. One of Ben Duckett, Joe Clarke or Ben Slater should have been targeted.
