I thought first half we dominated but just couldnt break through. Dev had a good shot well saved.

Second half... wow. What did Jimmy say to them in the changing rooms? What an utter load of garbage! Ive said this all pre season to myself after last season Cam needs a break from being number one, especially from being the captain!
Sharpe was about as sharp as a blunt pencil! Offered nothing defensively or going forward 100% got to play Camwell there.
Powell needs to stop thinking about himself and bring others into play. Beavon and Benbow need service or they wont score.
Julien and Verma? Well i really wouldn't give a shit if they didn't play again both of them were woeful!

Not a clue what JG was doing tactically today but he got it all wrong! Major wake up call for everyone today - was going on Tuesday but having second thoughts now.

Trouble is for all the players we signed there are not a lot of other options in central midfield, the answer maybe to play a 3-5-2 with Clifton and Camwell as wing backs and leave Powell out

Unfortunately the management won't drop Belford. Son of assistant manager and friend of the manager. They think that much of him they made him captain. More chance of snow in July than Belford being dropped.

- ground looked better. Advertising boards being painted blue has give the club a bit of life.

- served quickly in the bar, with a smile, reasonable price, whilst listening to an alright acoustic act

- greeted in the club shop by Andy Pace, with the home shirts on display, fixture cards, orders being taken for the away shirt.

- an audible PA system.

- quick entry at the suitable turnstiles.

Performance was diabolical and disappointing, but the club overall got plenty right.

I'd agree with most of that. But I couldn't hear the P.A. and so had no idea of the team list until someone showed me a copy. Nor did I know who the subs were. (I was behind the goals each half) I also think it's time the Nuneaton Town signage was removed now. Time to lose those Town boards by the vehicular entrance behind the Biscuit Tin.

I was also disappointed with the crowd , right at the bottom end of what was expected . We have been told for years that if we got in local people who cared about the club , engaged with the community and ran things probably the fans would return . 550 for the opening game when we appeared on paper to have made some good signings and the atmosphere leading to the game has been very positive is highly disappointing . Whatever the opposition . If we perform like we did today in the two away games we'll be down to 400 when Lowestoft arrive in two weeks .

I think there was/is a minority who are very enthusiastic with management.
A lot of hard-core were/are hopeful given last season.

These not the ones that matter though.
How to get them back is not going to be easy.
There are probably 100s of reasons why people stop coming, but no 1 reason to get them back.

I don't even think winning and/or entertaining football will make that much difference. Pretty sure the last play-off season (under Wilson) the crowds hovered around 700.

Perhaps if Boro did a Salford or Flyde then perhaps crowds will return...…….. but is that the answer.

As far as the people of the town are concerned all they see is the side ( on the pitch ) has been in steady decline for a number of seasons . Look away now certain posters , but since King Kev left every season has seen us finish in a lower position than the last . Couple that with total chaos off the pitch and years of negative headlines and as you say it's going to take time . Outside the few hundred die hards all the rest of the town see is a few years ago we were playing Luton & Bristol Rovers . Beating Grimsby , Wrexham , Lincoln , Cambridge United and a few more . Now we're losing , with all due respect as i felt they did their job yesterday , 3-0 at home to Kings Langley .

I guess I am one of those "certain posters".

You post is very valid - In some ways if Boro had not hit the heights, the troughs would not be so apparent. Bit of the boom and bust.
Caveat would be would people be satisfied with being similar to the likes of Worcester (when they had a ground), Hednesford or Gainsborough?

As for King Kev - my argument on success would be that no-way would the upward curve continue. IMO the downward spiral would have happened anyway. The argument should be "would it have been so bad?" - Also, don't forget a lot of this down-turn was due to off the field issues. IN bringing in LT; IN and the Ricoh incident; LT getting pissed off; NS coming on board etc etc. Would life have been different under any other manager?

that performance was to bad to be true

Towers had only played one pre season game, Henshall and Byrne where injured ( probably both firsts choices when fit) , Camwell should probably start instead of Sharpe, and possibly a 3-5-2 would suit us better at the minute, so there are ways things can possibly improve

question. the middle of the park was extremely poor for us yesterday
of that there is no doubt. totally directionless
am i right in thinking that we have a midfield player called Byrne injured as is Henshall ( spelling )
also surely another alternative is to put Clifton in the mix
without knowing or going through the squad are there any more alternatives ???
in a nutshell how many are out injured ? who would on paper play

ps bearing in mind yesterday was my first viewing. no pre season games for me

The next two games will give us some idea how good we actually are . Anyone can have an off day it happens to the best of them , it's how you react to that off day that says a lot . The best teams / sportsmen tend to blast back with a vengeance . Saturday was really poor no point saying anything else . How the team react to that performance will say more about them than that performance .

To me, that was not just a bad team performance but no-one stood out individually as being better than last season.

I have read on here many pre-season reports of "He looked too good for this level"; "looked class" and hints that players are playing below their standard (eg lad from Coventry/Wrexham) but I did not see any ability what-so-ever yesterday.

123 points left to play for - I think 100 will be enough :)

EASY to use precedents.

Boro finished 3rd after a horrendous start (0-5 Stourbride as mentioned elsewhere)
Alty 0-3 Boro - Boro relegated; Alty champions.
Around xmas of 2nd runners up spot boro hovering above bottom 3.

I remember xmas result of Boro 2-5 Hinckley and all doom and gloom and questioning manager - guess what happened.

Remember many years ago travelling to Altrincham first or second game of the season and winning 3-0 . They ended the season as Champions and we ended it getting relegated . Also a few seasons back didn,t Norwich start a league 1 season with a 7-1 home defeat against Colchester and ended the season as Champions .

Weird sense of dejavu about today. Like the previous campaign there was a lot of effort and energy but with little product. KL had to do little more than get players between the goal and Boro's attack to thwart any threat. Their centre backs used their height advantage to good effect and yet we still kept launching balls onto the box - when we did get behind them nobody was sharp enough to connect. They also kept their shape throughout and despite being behind on the possession stats could easily have won by a greater margin going close on three other occasions.
Julien's high. hard and not very handsome tackle led to red and it all felt too familiar.
CB looks short on confidence and composure, he should at least be relieved is skipper's duties to concentrate on his own game.

These players who many said looked good/were class in pre season.

I can honestly say that no one on the pitch today looked better than what was at the club last season.
People may say "new team", which has some milage BUT individual ability is usually apparent.

Why does every free kick and throw have to be hoofed into the box. Its bad enough when the weather is okay, but in a wind its terrible.

KL did not have to work for that victory and had 3 other gilt edges chances.

Only comfort - 0-3 to the team top of the league :)

Defence a shambles apart from Clifton . Couldn't believe how bad the two central defenders where .
Midfield non existent .
Not going to criticize the forwards as what they had behind them was so bad they had no chance .
Always a chance your going to lose the first game of the season but to lose like that i just can't get my head around how bad we were .

Kings Langley played some good football in very windy conditions.

This league will not be easy, but Boro should be a safe mid-table bet once team settles in.

Surprised Belford not replaced in the summer - poor again today and a liability.

And their keeper made 2 or 3 top saves, including the 1 on 1.

IMO it was a fluke.

Keepers need to be off the line because the percentage game is they will need to act as sweepers.

All he needs to do is get the basics right most of the time . Not constantly be conceding soft goals , make the odd decent save and not spread panic amongst his defenders . That's all most keepers at this level do and should be the level expected .

Like the positives.

Don't forget the miss (then save) after a boro defender slipped
or the chance that seemed to roll along the goal line with their forwards getting in each others way.

There keeper did what was expected of him, whereas ..........
I accept sometimes flukes happen, but Belford seems to suffer far more than most.... he was (again) unlucky with 3 today

Pretty kindly reflections by Boro fans on here so far. All of which (trust me) are pretty accurate. Fans who continue to deserve so much better. But it seems highly unlikely we are ever going to get it again, not in my lifetime, anyway. Carbon copy of some of the more appalling home games last season. The Village Lads deservedly strolled to victory. They mastered the conditions, stuck their foot in where it mattered, did not duck out of tackles and had a goalkeeper who had a smattering of the basics.

Bring on the Pocket Philosophers now, and their homilies about new players, difficult opponents, new League,Early Doors, injuries, superior fitness, low budgets etc etc etc but we've heard it all before and there is no masking the fact that today was basically, (yet another) 90 minutes of embarrassing shite.

Can it get worse? Oh dear me yes! We have the Might of Needham Market, Leiston and Rushall Olympic to face yet.

I mean FFS you could see after 20 mins we were being outplayed and outnumbered in midfield and yet we still stuck with one target man and 2 (very) wide players.
Someone said at half time i thought Beavon was supposed to be good, he hardly got a touch of the ball.
reminded me of the day we got stuffed 5-0 on the opening day in the old SLM.

As I have repeatedly said to others, the only thing that will hold back Boro from getting promotion is the management team. No tactical nous from any of them.
JG, excellent bringing money in, getting the town to support Boro and persuading the players to join, tactically inept. it showed at Atherstone and Barwell. keep JG as the chairman only and the club has potential.
Belford and Lavery, they are just shouters and bawlers from the touchline. Beavon and the likes won't put up with that for long. imagine walking into a dressing room at HT 1-0 down expecting a change in tactics or some instruction to just be told you're playing like a c*nt
Doesn't matter how good the players are, with no tactical instruction they won't progress. Boro NEEDS a football man, someone with a proper footballing brain. a Carl Baker type as a player/manager is what's needed.

I tend to agree with you.

However, JG was the right person for the job at the time so some patience is needed. Cant see him either being happy or prepared to stop being involved in the team.

It could be that NBFC is too big for him and/or the club has too high expectations.
His interview on Saturday effectively praised KL because, whilst they did not have the same quality, they (paraphrase) "did the job; just like we did at Barwell; battling above our station".

I think players fell out with Bradbury for the same reason. Players who "had the t-shirt, being shouted at by someone who did not".

You are spot on AF, nepotism is something that happens in junior football when the Dad in charge of the side picks his lad although everyone knows there are better kids not getting a game.
A proper manager who watched last seasons debacle would have made a new keeper the major priority so to make the present incumbent the first name on the team sheet and captain shows gross disregard for our semi pro status.
This club needs JG to take a step back and concentrate on what he has done so successfully so far,

Good question. Kirk Stephens was manager.

He resigned after that match. Then Les Green came in and changed the whole team.

Kirk claims he was never manager, just caretaker.

He would know I wonder how many games he was caretaker manager for? I remember the Stourbridge game and I was under the impression Kirk was the manager and he had put the squad together.

I was under that impression too.
When he was post match guest in the bar some seasons ago I asked him about his time as manager and he was adamant he was only caretaker.

I think Stephens denies he was ever manager.

He was manager the season before towards the end of it and put together a good run.
Remember talking to him at Cov Sporting (those were the days!).
