Whilst I more "forgiving" (not sure thats the right word) with Smurwaite and his involvement with Boro, one has to question his mind-set.

I quote

Now could the league bend the rules just to save Bury? They let Paul Scholes becoming manager of Oldham whilst having massive financial and management in Salford.

As I understand it he still owns Vale Park. The new owners are expected to buy it in instalments over the next 3 years.
