Another player like Benbow who spent the whole season looking like he didn't really want to be here . Mind you would probably have left for Telford whatever .

Not sure the "didnt really want to be here".
Didn't live up to expectations, but that could be for many reasons.

Also, not popular with former assistant manager!!!

To be fair overheard a conversation at Peterborough . When Byrne joined us he hadn't trained let alone played for about 18 months and has had to get himself fit simply by playing from a very low start point . Don't think we ever saw anywhere near his best and now we never will .

Boss Jimmy Ginnelly said ........
The simple fact is the terms he has been offered by Telford are far in excess of what we can afford at Nuneaton next season.

I can see the road we're going down.
I just hope people's expectations aren't that high next year .

Not sure why any club should be splashing out money on next season’s contracts. There’s no guarantee next season will happen. Also lots of clubs will be cutting budgets and releasing players so offering better terms to someone who hardly made an impact last season is a bit of a gamble for Telford.

I actually have more hope for our level than higher ones.

Most players at this level are non contract and those who are contracted seldom have more that 12 months. All part time players are only paid during the season (yes - financial problem with last six games)

So, in summary - whilst fixed costs have to be met (unless systems to defer) clubs at this level have few costs when not trading.

“Worse case” (Simplifies) - until the league starts again Boro only need to pay to maintain the pitch.

No surprise really that telford can offer much more. I bet they could 12 months ago,

I was surprised he ever joined in the 1st place, but AA comment probably explains perfectly - Use Boro to get back fitness, then re-evaluate at end of season.

If we have to bring in players that are even more affordable than what we had last season I hope we can at least invest in a manager who can get the best out of them.

with regards to the managerial side of the club
i attended m first game aged about 8 in 1950/1 season ( and no not boro )
what i will say is this. right or wrong
i can never remember a successful pro club at any level over a period of time
having a chairman / manager who was as one.
and btw im not having a dig at Jimmy
just stating that fact .... not saying there hasn't been one but offhand i cant remember one
if it worked im sure it was short term or many would adopt the philosophy at lower levels.
basically imo you need a chairman who can say "your sacked ...not good enough"
as ever just an opinion.

tbf i think the expectations only grew in 'certain quarters' this season with the
perceived quality of the close season signings.
'some' of which fell woefully short in truth
lets not forget we have a CF who 'allegedly' told people he was on circa 700 notes a week.
plus possibly one or two more were not on peanuts

i agree that next season with the attendances maybe not coming up to expectations
600 ish average ???? and lets not forget i believe it was still the 4th or 5th highest ????
the budget will be more 'cautious' if thats the right wording
i think its a case of watch this space

There's no doubt last season was a massive disappointment taking into account the pedigree of many of our players , on paper . The problem for me was we had too many older heads who are probably here for one last pay day . Maybe what we need is a few more hungry younger players , not talking youth team players but maybe players in their early to mid twenties dropping down and looking to get back . From memory Royston who may well have pipped Tamworth to the title were predominantly in that bracket with a couple of older heads thrown in .

Don't disagree with that.

Always felt Adam Walker/Mark Noon a good examples.
Tried at pro level.
Local
Released it was unlikely the would make the grade.
Looked for job/qualifications outside football.
Wanted to play at decent level for fun.
Earn some pocket money.

Both also had "that elusive" quality of being mature, intelligent and committed.

What would many say Byrne was worth for us last season . I would say there are players out there getting paid £150 a week at our level who were just as effective for their clubs . I'm guessing Telford are throwing much more than that at him . Any club who throws the cash around presently must be very confident of there financial streams or it's just madness . I'd much rather we lived within our means , especially at this time , than chucked money around at players who to be honest were pretty average last season .

Only a guess but say Byrne was on 3-400 a week with us last season if Telford have offered him a lot more guessing at 7-800 a week, which is a lot for a player who had been out for a fair while with an injury and didn’t look back to full fitness last season
