If/when next season starts I really can't seeing it starting until all leagues are ready and given the green light.

Given the premier does not start till the 17th June I don't think that will end till the end of July.

If league starts are staggered, that will have a knock on effect till the following season.

The only possible way a staggered start could work would be to have a few seasons on no promotion between different competitions.

All pure guesswork as no-one can predict what will happen. Another lock-down will throw everything into even more confusion.

MY GUESS - Leagues below national may well have a season of 21 games starting in January.

Just on PL they are due to start mid June , probably finish end of July, FA Cup Final booked for first week of August, all being well there is no reason PL could not start next season at the beginning of September, might mean dropping a couple of rounds in the league cup or something to catch up the late start.

Another point (ref friendlies).

the leagues will only start when safe and with permission of the government.

If they say 5th september; that will be the date where games at this level can take place. I can't see friendlies being permitted prior to that.

I thought/assumed the FA Cup had been scrapped.

I think there are still 7 games yet to be played (plus 4 potential replays).

I think there will be big changes, with Corona being used as an excuse by many.

No league cup again.
Massive changes to the FA Cup.

Basically, what the big boys want.

Also, i suspect there may be a move for 2 premier leagues; perhaps even without promotion or relegation (but perhaps by invite so the likes of Sunderland can get in).

I can't see 6 games being fitted in along side the league.

Irrespective, a September start is unlikely IMO.

Anyway - the big clubs will be wanting their players to have more rest after a long hard season ;)

Think half season with only playing each other once or divisions split into mini leagues with playoffs to settle final positions seem to be the two most likely . Agree can't see us starting till at least Oct / Nov & even then that's probably optimistic . The prospect of further lock downs if or when we get further spikes confuses the issue even more .

I have not been keeping abreast, but it seems the FL are dragging heals.

I just hope CCFC are rewarded (and Barrow and possibly another).

As for Rugby Union..... Saracens may have to play in two leagues at the same time.

Rugby Union and League have less chance of starting than football. They are full contact sports.

BUT.... the government said a few weeks ago that golf, fishing, tennis and basketball* were okay to play.

Having played basketball, I can assure you its far from non-contact.

* I assume the government think basketball is just about throwing a ball in a basket.

The problem is at the higher levels everyone is trying to get what's best for them rather than looking at what's best for the whole . Scottish football is in a right mess . Hearts chairman / woman have continually come up with restructuring plans to save her club from relegation is now threatening court action to stop next season starting if she doesn't get her way . At least at our level most clubs ,not all , even ones who missed out excepted the situation as it was in the best interest of the majority .
