Whats with it with shirt numbers this season. Boro have often started with a number 12 and Banbury had many outside the 1..11 starting.

Are players now washing their own kits?

Banbury showed how football can be played at this level.
Played through midfield with their defence not messing about.

Where as Boro tried to hit the lone striker as soon as possible with more often the not Banbury immediately regaining possession.

I champion 442, but there has to be balance.

I would guess there is not much difference between 15 or 16 (or more) teams in this league. Sadly I see Boro now aligned with those we (wrongly associate the word "who?" with.

Spot on. I really cannot fathom the thinking behind the 'Breedon bomb' tactic. I thought we were supposed to have a tactically minded coaching team.

The contrast was highlighted in the second half; their keeper rolling the ball out, short goal kicks, receiving return passes. Their midfield knowing where the pass was coming from and more significantly, where they would pass it next. Whereas, our reply was either to hit it long - only once did we win a header from the captain's 'exocet' kicks - or to play in training triangles why someone worked out how to release the ball from it.

I can only hope that other managers are not as canny as theirs was at half time in working us out. He completely nullified the threat of Shamsi and Bassett (the latter with a tackle that might have been a warning circa 1978 but should have been a red).

Is it me or does it still look a bit too much like last season; patches of good play, but tenuous at times and nervy defending from crosses and set pieces?

If I were JG, I'd have them watch the second half video for a lesson in keeping your shape, being more physical where necessary and being able to change gear in attack.

Oh well, we travel hopefully. UTB

Even if Breedon (and others) attempt at being Beckham reach their target, the defender has plenty of opportunity to nick the ball AND the receiving player has to have the skill/ability to control it. This is level 7 players we are talking about.
Banbury showed there are players at this level capable of doing simple things. The opposition can't score without the ball, so why give them the opportunity to get possession.

Where as their midfield always seemed to be able to make theirselves available for a pass (particularly the No 20).

(I know level 7), but oh for a Byrne or Morgan. Hopefully Baker will give this option, but I won't hold my breath.

(missing one way or other) Kettle, Kelly-Evans, Baker, Kettle, Goddard and the lad who went off early on Saturday.

I would not be surprised if we don't see Benbow again given financial situation WRT covid19. No use paying unless 100% fit and to be honest he has never looked fully fit and by own omission was not fit pre-season.

God knows what's happened to lad from Atherstone who was playing right back. I have heard he has gone AWOL.

so in a nutshell Baker, K Evens, Kettle and Goddard
cant comment on Benbow.
if all 4 would automatically play then that is a 40pc loss of personnel.
add Benbow and your looking at half the outfield players out
that is significant.
the thing about football is fortunes change overnight ask Dean Smith ( villa ) and Jose Mourino. (spurs)
lots and lots of points to play for yet
still in the fa cup ( thats put the mockers on it ) but who knows ????????
take last season not one of our finest but still ended up on the shirt tails of the playoffs.
a couple of smart signings can transform matters not saying we will but anything is always possible
cheers.

Only one team in it second half. Could easily be been 2-2 at h/t with Banbury's missed chances & Boro failing to convert a golden chance right on half time.

They seemed quicker & fitter second half & No.8 Rasulo ran things in the middle much like he did at their place last season. Thought our young lad at right back did well despite picking up a booking.

When does the BSC start..? ;-)

its early days yet but its hard to disagree with the sentiments expressed above.
fwiw i thought last weeks cup win highlighted our problems
which in itself is a contradiction
however, second half overrun in midfield by a side from a lower lge at home !!!
there im afraid in my humble opinion lies our seemingly never ending problems
you have to ask the question which is an unavoidable one
are the management team actually good enough ?
many i speak to on the terraces dont think so.
or at the very least have their doubts.
what i will say in defense of the management is ; lets get a full squad fit then see where we go.
again, early days.
UTB.

Yes - early days but I see little improvement in style/attitude/tactics from last season.

Lita is lone striker and he is hardly the most mobile and I really don’t think he expected to start and play 90 mins of many games.

Bypassing midfield whenever possible.
Players playing out of position to accommodate formation - its hard enough for players at the top level to do this.

Not sure of formation yesterday. This plan was 433 but looked like 451

Injuries have hampered, but even with most available Boro hardly shone. And it’s always those not playing who will make a difference.

again i cant really disagree with the sentiments expressed.
its just that i find it hard to criticize a local guy who has basically transformed the club
from being a total mess which must have been a lot of hard work into a working unit.

im a pragmatist i understand that for every winner there is a loser
football management is about one thing RESULTS.

to run a successful club without the results on the field
is about as stupid as expecting turkeys to vote for christmas

Yea - too many chiefs and given the “experience” and cv of others they are going to have their own views.

I am not totally in agreement of “too much to do”. I can see the argument but the level has to be taken into account.
