Died yesterday after suffering front MND. Genuinely nice guy who did a great job for Boro for a short spell in the 80’s. Remember a terrific goal at Alvechurch swivelling on a ball played to him from a corner and hooking it the top corner.

Think he played for us for two seasons including in goal on opening day of season back in zConferenc. Boro keeper had been sent off, we won 2-0.

In SLP season (81/82) he played 57 and scored 26.
In Alliance season (82/83) he played in the 1st 8 games scoring once (at Stafford in the league cup 1-0 win).

Someone said about keeper (Dullistan) being sent off in 1st game. Memory cells at work and I believe he was the first boro player (if not the 1st in top 5 divisions) to fall foul of the "professional foul" rule. This would have been during the 3-1 win at MP vs Yeovil.

Sad news, terrific player who helped kick start Graham Carr’s reign at the Boro, loved watching him play

Terrific player Boro always seemed to be able to attract ex league players who were still genuine professionals who gave their all for the cause, we could use a good winger now.
Sad, sad nnews.

Sometimes you get ex pros’ who love playing the game and embrace playing at whatever leve they can. Their class and ability shine through.

Robson, along with Muir and Baxter fitted this category.

Robson was the catalyst to Boro getting back into the alliance.

Funny thing for me and Sammels is that I don't recall him playing much. If you asked me how many games he payed I would say 6 or 7.

When you see these ex true professionals its clear to see why they did so well. Class is permanent.

(tangent). I remember seeing Frank Worthington play for Hinckley when he was 40+. He hardly moved (I think that was nothing new), but wow could he use a ball.

I know - its just don't remember him playing anywhere near that amount.
He played early 80s and a lot was happening in my life at that time.

Remember the first time i saw Tommy . We had been relegated and had a pre season game v Kettering , then one of the best sides in the APL , at a time when friendlies were taken a bit more seriously than now . Carr had given him the big build up so i was looking forward to seeing then out ran this slightly bow legged little old man , i was much younger then . Remember thinking what on earth have we signed here . Well ninety minutes later we had won 4-1? and Tommy had turned the Kettering defence inside out . Went on to be one of my favourite ever Boro players . RIP Tommy .

Final edit due to a very unfortunate placing of text :(

I remember the promotion day.
For some reason he turned his shirt inside out and was by the stand having a fag.
His shirt looked looked like an Argentina one - This was the time of the Falklands conflict.

Carr assembled a squad to do a job. Many soon left after promotion.

Barry Lowe was brilliant; never gave the ball away - no room for that in current team :)
Roy Clayton a goal scorer - Plenty of room in current team.
Richard Dixie - Uncompromisting - No room in modern football. looks same today as he did 40 years ago.
John Glover - Pure class - passed away far too early.
Trevor Morley - No description needed.
and many others (Dale, Sandercock, .

From http://www.fromtowntotown.org.uk

Surprised by 26 goals in 57 (missed just 3) appearances during promotion season
He also played 8 (1 goal) in the Alliance. I thought he was just here 1 season.

Seem to remember that he had a set piece throw in thing with Trev Morely that yielded a couple of goals.
RIP Tommy
