Was it a regular right or left back we needed as they kept changing every week I can't remember now.

both, and centre back, midfielders, strikers and keepers :)

I suspect just signed as cover; initially at least as he retired in the summer.
Still, he is only 31 so not past it. 250 games for Halifax says something.
