Was Breeden’s incompetent and clumsy foul really worth a red? Violent conduct - not really. An obvious goal scoring opportunity - possibly.

It certainly was a red - Whilst he tried to get out of the way, he clearly brought the striker down and as last-man "them the rules".

Some shocking defending there. Even with 10 men

Isn't one of the relevant criteria whether it was a clear goalscoring opportunity? Looking at where the striker had played the ball to and the position of the backtracking Boro' defender, I'm not sure it was. I have the benefit of the action replay though. I can understand why in real time, with the event happening at speed, the referee took the view he did. None of that detracts from my distaste of the clear over reaction of the player fouled.

Watched again - the striker was 2 meters in front of left back (who was appealing for offside); The striker was first to the ball and had flicked the ball past Breedon. Whether defenders would have got back is irrelevant given the rules.... Breedon was the last man and there can be no question Breedon had not made contact.

I am guessing Breedon will miss just one game ...... probably in April :)

Tony knew what he was doing just tried to make it look like an accident . Clear sending off imo .

The missus agrees with you! Having watched it again, it does look cynical.

When looking at these sort of incidents in the cold light of day i always try and think how would i see it if it was reversed . I know what i would think if there keeper had committed that foul on Shamsi .
I see the lad who scored the hat trick was only playing because Powell was cup tied .

I honestly think he did try and pull away.

Thing is, there has been a few times when he has rushed out and managed to get away with it.....just.

I THINK this was the 1st time boro have had to replace a keeper since Armson went in goal in SL-Premier season (or was it @ Gainsborough when both keepers were sent off).

when you decide in an instant whether to stick or twist your timing has to be spot on.
im afraid with Tony what you see is what you get.
given the overall circumstances with eleven on the pitch
whether we would have got through is anyone's guess.
have to say the pitch looked very very poor, not an excuse merely an observation.
it looks a couple of goals start to me, again an observation.

Can also remember Jimmy going in goal at Harrogate . From memory they equalised from the resulting pen but we then won it 2-1 with an injury time pen put away by Storer .

so, at least 7 seasons?

3 in National.
3 in North.
1 in Southern.

This is why I don't see much need to have a sub-keeper(when limited to 5 at least).

Even when needed, the probability on average is for just half a game (and I bet more sent off/injured 2nd half)..... even then; 3 subs may have already been used.

STOP PRESS..... just remembered - keeper sent off late-on 1st game of relegation from North. Keeper (I think) now at Carlisle (or was). Belford was also sent off against BPA (I think) at Liberty Way.

Still..... i would gamble with no sub-keeper (assuming a full and fit bench)

That's exactly what I thought when I saw it. Referee perhaps influenced by the reaction of the Kettering player who went down as if he'd been shot. Without a doubt the thing I hate most about the modern game.
