15 years ago today over 5,000 Boro fans travelled to the Riverside Stadium for the FA Cup 3rd Round Replay against Middlesbrough.

A convoy of over 50 coaches stretched as far as the eye could see on the motorway as the Boro faithful made their way north and into the history books as they set a new stadium record for an away attendance at the Riverside Stadium.

Over 26,000 fans witnessed ‘Big Boro v Little Boro’ and two goals from Gez Murphy gave the vocal Boro fans the chance to lift the roof off the stadium, they didn’t disappoint.

The Boro team and fans gave their all on an unforgettable night as the international and premier league stars of Middlesbrough prevailed in a 5-2 win.

DID YOU MAKE THE JOURNEY?

IF SO PLEASE SHARE YOUR STORIES AND PHOTOS WITH US BY COMMENTING BELOW OR ON OUR FACEBOOK PAGE.

A selection of photographs shown on our Facebook page include a unique image taken from the Boro Legends Night that we organised at the club which featured former players from the 1950’s onwards.

The image shows the only two Boro players to have scored in the FA Cup 3rd Round - Gez Murphy and Paul Cutler (1967 v Rotherham Utd).

Despite living in the London area Paul still travels to Boro home games when he can and speaks fondly of his time at the Boro.

He has also donated trophies and rare documents to our display at the Chilvers Coton Heritage Centre in Avenue Road.

If you have any rare and unique Boro items that you think may enhance our display please email us at - [email protected]
