Lowestoft away would be a good one to start. Nice weekend at the seaside to start the season.

If we are going to do anything this season we could desperately do with a decent start . Over recent seasons we regularly seem to make a slow start then were up against it from the off .
This is just the sort of first game we seem to get everyone expects us to win and we don't .

Every game in this league is, and should, be winnable.

If we don't see it that way, we should call it a day.

All i'm saying is it's a winnable game and we could do with winning it .
Negativity is a bit of a default setting for most football fans . I tried being positive before the Euro final i even stayed positive when it went to pens and everyone around me we,re predicting doom and look how that turned out (:

footnote; England
its hard to be positive when a manager puts his faith in an 18 yr old.
i dont blame the raw kid one bit.
i do think others far more experienced need to take a good look at themselves and i include Southgate
the word chickens comes to mind

Joe, Southgate did absolutely nothing to try and prevent the game going to penalties and once he got his team there he abdicated.

agree 100pc.
i admit its great being wise after the event
i cant prove on here they were my thoughts prior to extra time / pens, only the people i watched it with can
if he had made changes midfield and lost the game i would not have criticized.
i havent met anyone yet who thought he didnt need to act. he just sat back
it was the final it was shit or bust time. nowhere to go. the moment had arrived.
imo very poor management decisions for that level
wonder how many managers would have done the same. ie. sat back .... hardly any i'll wager

Two teams make a football game. I would say England were forced back…… as England did to Denmark, which could easily have gone to penalties if not for one incident.

The diffencebbetween England and Denmark is probably the same with England and Italy.

If England had tried to be more attacking Italy would have picked them off.

Italy have gone years without losing. That says a lot about them.

opinions make the world go round
btw if you read i was not saying England should have been more attacking
quite the opposite.
we and again omo should have changed the midfield at 1-0
we could not get a kick in midfield second half
he should have changed it and again i repeat myself if he had done so
and lost no criticism from me. BUT to do f**k all he chickened out.
it was the final it was all or nothing
thats my opinion and i stand by it.

ok so tell me davey what has that got to do with talking about the Italy game.
we rode our luck and i know we have been on the end of bad decisions in the past
ive made my point you either agree he done feck all at 1-0 where an Italy goal looked inevitable
or you pat him on the back for getting there.
incidentally we never lost we drew 1-1 if it had not been the actual final i wud agree.
it was his Waterloo there was nowhere to go. full stop.
you either acted or done feck all, which he did. end of really.
no more to say on it the facts are there.

What it’s got to do with Joe , if it wasn’t for the good decisions he made prior to the Italy game we would never have got to the Italy game, so you have to have a balanced view

Disagree - Southgate seemed to get everything right.

He saw what the players did in training, and he clearly felt the lad(s) were up to it.

My only criticism was bringing on players just to take penalties - I think its hard to come on and just kick a ball; you have to be at tempo ----- Didnt Brazil fall foul of this with Zico at a world cup....... and can I mention Belshaw ;)

Edit - my only other concern with Southgate is that he may be over-cautious. I would have played all the attacking players.......and clearly I know best !!!!!! ;) ;) ;) What could go wrong with a 4-0-4-2 formation !!!!!!

Not sure that’s fair, Grealish has said he volunteered to take a penalty but Southgate went with those he thought had taken them the best in training

just say it as i see it.
some big names who obviously did not fancy kicking a football 12 yds ie in laymans terms an open goal
incidentally which they are paid mega bucks to do. ie premier champions european champions etc.
i cud say a lot more but it is wot it is.
if your a Southgate fan !!!!!!!!! - fine. good luck to you.
faint heart never won fair maiden.
proof of the pudding will be in the eating.... one way or the other.
if im wrong im wrong but i know where my money lys

Not an open goal they were up against a very big and very good keeper. England could only have stopped it going to penalties by losing to Italy. Italy were by far the better side from the start of the second half onwards. My one criticism of Southgate was that he should have brought all his substitutions on 25 minutes before they actually happened and then tried to attack Italy.
