Won 2-0

Lots of possession, very little quality upfront again, first half Shamsi played upfront with Edmunds and Awadah. Second half Lita moved from Centre half to play upfront again a struggle to create much. Positives Westwood looks a decent right back , Mussa, Noble and Kaziboni all played well in midfield. Lita played centre half first half with Kettle, second half Peppera and Kettle. Don’t think either Lita or Pepera are good options there at all

After a week in which i've taken some encouragement i thought we were awful today . Despite the score the Adders ( who play three levels lower than us ) bossed the game for long periods . They looked a better balanced side and played the better football . They did resort to some questionable tactics at times but if that had been 2-0 to them we couldn't really have complained .

I would like to have seen less friendlies and more training and working on shape and the like.

With a coaching staff that features Baker & Lita one would hope this would be worked on, but are the players good enough/committed enough/ disciplined enough to take it on board. Let's face it; the lower you go, the more the players just want to play football with on a Saturday.

We have good players, Breedon, Westwood, Armatige, Mussa Noble Kaziboni, Baker, Kelly , Gough,Shamsi are all decent for this level , the problem is we have too many players and it’s an unbalanced squad, in Central defence we have Kettle, but the others IMO are not good enough, upfront we basically have Shamsi and that’s where the problems lie.
Tactics are also a problem and a real JG weakness, first half today virtually our only tactic was every time Breedon got the ball he just launched it downfield towards Edmunds

I think the squad will be trimmed come the start of the season….. perhaps some have been signed with the U21 squad in mind.

Not seen any PSF but I have grave concerns about the age of the squad; more so as these senior players seem to be the basis of the team.

Ps - i guess the french lad is ear marked for Center back

He has been poor in pre season as has the new signing Pepera, Gough looks the best bet to play alongside Kettle and he has played more as Left Back in his career

Apparently he played for Enfield but there are three clubs playing in the non league system all carrying the Enfield name . It would be interesting to know which one .
It's a bit like Enfield Town ( the highest ranked ) announcing they have signed a central defender from Nuneaton . The trouble is it could be Griff not Boro .

Enfield Town - Isthmian Premier.
Made 6 appearances last season (which is no indication)
His previous club Hanwell Town play a level below the premier.

So at least it was the highest ranked of the three .
He does look like a Sunday league player who's been chucked into a SL side on early viewings .

I don't think you can accurately judge players in pre season. In past years Johnny Watts and Terry Angus looked like the worst players we had ever signed in pre season. Written off they were even before a ball had been kicked. Did not turn out to be too bad in the end. On the othe side of the coin anyone remember Richard Bailey. Pre season world beater kick off flop.

Maybe I’m miserable.
Maybe I’m cynical.
More so I’m realistic about Boro’ these days and what we are as a club and team.
I hope I’m wrong.
But here’s my prediction for 2021/22.

We won’t get relegated.
We won’t get promoted.
It’ll be quite boring.
We’ll use 30 or more players and lack any consistency.

Honestly hope I’m wrong, but I think that’s a likely scenario.

I just see a southern league club, with southern league outlook, with southern league players, with southern league manager playing in a conf-north ground with conf-north attendances.

I think too many (I include myself) expect more - Fact is, Boro are in this league for a reason. This is sort of backed up with the predicted turn round of players.

Promotion is not out of the question but (clearly not an accurate statement) points will be acquired rather than won.

The thing is, Southern League Premier used to be the feeder league into the national. Step 2 into Step 1.

We are now at Step 3, what used to be the Southern League Midlands.

I really, despite our off the pitch struggles, don't think that's good enough.

We are, IMO, never gonna be non league giants, but we should hold our own at Step 2 (Conference North)

This is effectively the same level that Boro were in following the Shooter/Kelly/Ground issues prior to StadiaSafe (1991)

I don't disagree with you sentiment, but the same could be said of the likes of Hednesford, Tamworth (and perhaps Bromsgrove).
I think it would be fair to say, of all the clubs in this league Boro have the bigger history.... but that counts for nothing.

whilst not saying your wrong
lets just wait for the real business to begin.
we have been playing football in conditions more akin for far more leisurely sports
i agree wholeheartedly that its a big season for jimmy and co.
you cant go on forever relying on the maxim " i saved the club "
obviously he loves the job of that i have no doubt, he believes in himself
you have to in football management
but at the end of the day he knows football with all the hype and sentiment laid bare is a results business.
i for one wish him well. i hope he proves his many doubters wrong
will he ? ask me in 6 months :-)

When it comes to pre season I refuse to get to negative if results are going badly or on the reverse to positive if results are going well.

This preseason however I walked out of Buxton game thinking we look absolute shit simple as that, watched us at Shepshed and today and I’m trying to think it only pre season but we look awful.

There is absolutely nothing upfront in this squad, next to no creativity in midfield, no fight in midfield and how I read it if he is playing Lita at the back instead of two centre backs the manager has signed well that says it all.

Armitage and Gift look good signings, the jury is out on the rest.

No games played yet so only time will tell and I really hope I’m wrong but this season for JG there are no excuses, first season he was here in conference north nothing to do with him, two seasons at this level we have looked poor but covid has affected both so who knows what could happen, but now he has done his stuff behind the scenes, this is his team and every player is his signings.

Personally think this could be a interesting season and might shape our future for the next few years. Push on and try to finish high and build for next year or we could now just stay at this level and as a football team just flitter out and turn into a midland league level club no better or bigger than Barwell.
