For the older members of the forum and for personal interest only but I`m after some help if possible , I have a vague recollection of `Boro possibly playing Portsmouth in an evening friendly at Manor Park likely mid to late 70`s ?
I`ve searched somewhat online to locate the fixture but had no success so far . Can anyone remember the game or even provide more details ? Thank you in advance and appreciated ..

If you need any information on Boro games please check our website, following information regards Portsmouth game, hope that helps =

Nuneaton Borough v Portsmouth 02-04-1976
Borough welcomed second division Portsmouth to Manor Park to play a friendly match.
Bobby Vincent and Bob Turpie teamed up again last night to bring back memories for the Manor Park fans. Vincent scored his first goal since his car crash nearly two years ago. And Turpie netted a spectacular match-winner that stunned Pompey, with five minutes to go. But the goal that stole the show was Vincent’s ten minutes into the second half.
It was a penalty – but that did not matter. For it was the major milestone on his road to recovery. The delight on Vincent’s face as the ball hit the back of the net told it all.
Portsmouth had taken the lead from the penalty spot after Ian Goodwin has felled Mellows. Kamara scored from the spot. Ten minutes later Vincent equalised after Hawkins had been brought down.
Turpie then turned on a moment of magic that turned back the clock. He recovered a ball that was going out, left ex- Coventry defender Paul Cahill helpless – and scored from the narrowest of angles.
Bob Knight made a wonderful save from McGuinness in the dying seconds, but Borough, who worked hard deserved their win. And Vincent and Turpie made it a night to remember.

Reading the match report, I would think that it was Chris Kamara of Sky Sports fame who scored for Pompey. He was there at this time.

Thanks all for the response and the comprehensive detail, very much appreciated. I`d have been twelve but have a recollection of the few Pompey fans there that night, it was my first awareness of the distance supporters would travel to watch their team away and I still to this day remember a couple asking directions back to Trent Valley after the game; for some reason it stuck with me ever since.
From "Town to Towns" match detail it appears to have been a memorable victory for the "Boro too, especially from the two goalscorer`s perspective, it was very much the Borough team I grew up with. Thanks again .
