That was Burge at Braintree on a Thursday night. Freezing cold night. Best save I’ve ever seen live

His save at Barrow was incredible and of massive importance in the context of that season . That one save was very possibly the turning point in our season .

thats amazing i was thinking about that save too
when i mentioned what a shot stopper he was.
one if not the best save i can ever remember anywhere by any goalkeeper
was a night game away to Bedford Town ( 2-2 from memory)
Les Green bullet header from virtually point blank range.
pure instinct lightening reactions over the bar.
made some of the better known ones you repeatedly see on tv look decidedly average
ps. pleasant change to actually discuss positive football on here for a change.

talking of Les Green
Views: 689
does anyone remember going wellington ( Telford ) old ground
when Greeny had been upsetting the loud mouthed home fans.
the perimeter fence was concrete at the time and quite high
one bloke was trying to get over it to have a go at him
he threw the ball in his face and knocked him straight back over.
that fucked that little shit up.

yup life is now run by the woke brigade.
soon belly laughs will be banned
as they upset fat people.
tell you what stalwart
life was a lot simpler and people were happier than they are today
in this materialistic world.
no doubt some will disagree with me
all i will say is at least ive had the experience to be able to judge both.
utb.

Not many better than Fred Crump. We had a keeper in the 80's called John McKenna I think he came from Boston. Another in the mix is Lyndon Parslow who was a bomb disposal officer in the army. Signed from Grantham
My top 5 in Order
1 Fred Crump
2 Les Green
3 John McKenna
4 Bob Knight
5 Lyndon Parslow.

can tell you a story, about a chat with Fred in the clubhouse after the game
had played away in the trophy at Chelmsford think we lost 3-2.
the boro had played on the sat/tues/thurs/saturday
he had picked up 70 quid in a week, of that he had earned eleven quid working for sharps removals.
so he had got 60 quid for playing part time football ! !
to put that into context i earned approx 28 quid
which was one of the best 4 toolrooms in the Coventry area. if not the country
ie mega bucks in those days. as the Coventry toolroom rate was envied throughout the country
Ted Heath squashed it we came out on strike but it came to no avail

you can ask but no if you dont mind.
not on here anyway.
all i will say it was not Alfred Herberts
as they were not one of the better payers.
there was massey ferguson / alvis / rolls royce / sterling metals
think there was another one, my memory does me no favours though these days.
* i used to work with brummies who drove every day to cov for upto two bob extra an hour.
ten pence to the uninitiated in new money... i think... its late at night :-)

I’ve watched since 1993.
Best keeper for me overall in that time goes right under the radar but as an all round keeper he had the lot. Good on crosses, good shot stopper, good distribution.
Danny Alcock.
Chris MacKenzie and Lee Burge make up the top 3. Liked Paul Haywood too, Rich Williams, and Acco

Alan Dulleston, Brian Robinson, Kelle Roos.
In more recent times, Chris Mackenzie for me...

All those were good keepers, there have been so many over the years. To be fair not had many dodgy ones.

That's a very good point. Over my time,Borough have had very few dodgy keepers. Usually has been a strength we've had.
I rate Breeden now as one of the best in this division we're in.

The bestkeeper I've seen play for us has to be John McKenna. Sometime in the 80's I think. Don't think he played many but he stood out for me.
