The next challenge - Avoiding two phoenix clubs
Views: 777
From JG's CWR interview, he divulged that investors (likely the ones that just pulled back from buying Boro Leisure) are about to launch a phoenix club.
There is also a fan-led club in the offing, most likely driven by the Co-op.
We've done club ownership by "business men" and it doesn't work. But the last thing we need is two phoenix clubs, diluting support and competing for land.

Fully agree with this, and some insightful posts recently LukeS 👀
I know that 'in the know' people read this forum, so yeah, dont try compete, try to work together to see if there can be a shared vision achieved. Hopefully a longer term, sustainable vision that is rooted in the town where supporters can play an active role.

Hope is not a plan.

And the way to achieve that is be honest and transparent.
No bragging about success on the field when bills are not being paid.

Worry is it could be like Hinckley, Enfield, Northwich and Aylesbury with 2 clubs from the ashes of 1

There is a route to a new ground, and this favours a fan-owned model.

What are the possible new ground options?
Windmill sports ground? Would need a lot of work.
I cant see anywhere else in Nuneaton or even surrounding areas.

The Supporters Co-op Treasurer admitted in his interview that the Co-op would not be able to take over the running of the Club.
Has their opinion changed?

Let’s clarify this.
Could they run a stadium with events and matchdays of 500 plus and everything else? Probably not.
Could they run a SINGLE team playing in the midland premier which groundshares with another club?
Wouldn’t be very hard would it.

Reality needed - if it grows then it has to be steady.

It would be even easier to put a Supporters team in the local Sunday League.
The ambitions of this new fan led Club would need to be made clear from the outset.

There's a difference between the Co-op running the club, and the Co-op facility the start of a new fan-owned and ran entity.

One club with majority shareholding by a Fan led group say 60% then maybe these investors for the other 40%.
With the option to buy/sell a % when needed.
Is this achievable? would be the best option imo.

AFC Telford United came unstuck in their share issue, when they limited an individual shareholding to 20%, which put off two foreign investors with links to the town.
They admitted that was a mistake.
IMO, no one particular shareholding should exceed 49%.

It would - best of both worlds. But I think the two people involved have there hearts set on being "football club owners", and would want control.
If it's the same pair, that is.

When are the Supporters Co-op going to publish their proposals/initiative?
Edit:
Scarborough Athletic is being run as a Society.
