Tamworth - FA cup

I’ll probably get some stick for sympathetic views towards our neighbours and rivals.

But FA cup replays being scrapped is a disgrace.

They are 4 minutes away from getting a deserved replay at Spurs, but instead (if it stays 0-0) will have to play extra time instead of having a trip to Spurs ground.

Big club favouritism coming to the fore.

On 22 Feb 2022 I attended a level 7 game that was abandoned due to crowd trouble.
One team looked odds on for promoted to level 6 whilst the other held (unrealistic) hopes of the same.

Less than 2 years later.
1 club is at level 5 and keeping a level 1 club to a draw in a competitive fixture at the same venue. The other is at level 10 with out a ground.

as for replays. I would like to see more changes that would help interest (not everyone would agree).
1 - Seeding, so the top clubs are always away.
2 - Penalties after 90 mins.

Rational
1 - People want upsets; surely more chance with bigger clubs playing away.
2 - Would smaller clubs like the prize money and the chance of another big pay out?

Remember - there is a 50/50 chance of being away, but or about 30% being away at a top flight club (less that against a glamour club)

I am probably in the minority.

If the Premier teams don’t want replays then a rule stating that they field at least 8 players in the team who played in their last Premiership game should be made rather than them sending out a weakened side against a team from a lower division. To stop them claiming they couldn’t do this due to injuries picked up in the last Premiership game, then those injured are unable to play in their next Premiership game.

Given size and strength of premier clubs it’s arguable what would be a wakened team.

I don’t believe and premier club lost to a lower league club this weekend (spurs probably the closest). The managers did what they are paid to do.

City didn’t do bad against a team going well in league 2 with Haaland, de brune, foden and De silver on the bench and walker/stones not in the squad.
Also easy for Liverpool and Chelsea of the big clubs.

Would Tamworth have minded if they had beaten a weak spurs (and it was a pretty strong line up) or lost easily to a stronger spurs side.

Like it or not - this is football now.

These wholesale changes to the FA Cup have been designed to accommodate the half dozen Premier League sides that qualify for the UEFA Competitions. Besides that being done, those clubs still fail to put out their strongest sides and treat the FA with contempt. I would like to see qualification for the EUFA at the expense of FA Cup participation and the rest of us can revert back to how things were.

As one door closes, another one opens.

Very true.

But on the flip side, if the rules were that way in 2006, another 30 minutes at Manor Park could well have led to the "game of all games" away at Coventry City.

True.

But on the flip side of that, another 30 minutes at Manor Park with our players dead on their feet could have seen us lose heavily in extra time and never get the game at The Riverside…

That's football for you.

But on balance, given the choice at that moment, I would have taken extra time over a replay..

Each to their own.

Trip to an elite stadium to see your team play a deserved replay all day long for me.

Manor Park over the Riverside for me.

And I don’t begrudge Tamworth anything. I’m old enough to remember when we didn’t regard them as rivals at all. West Midlands League and FA Vase etc.

Tbf, the nights at Tiverton and Histon were both better than the night at The Riverside.

I wasn’t at Tiverton but certainly enjoyed Histon and the equivalent game at Stevenage a few years before!

Tiverton was good. Journey back from Stevenage was good.(Coloured by their fans' swagger beforehand/during most of game and a visit to a Spurs pub afterwards). Truro was epic. (BoroPig?) Barrow-memorable. (Late win? ATWFN?)

But I also loved Stoke, Swansea and The Riverside. Went to both Bournemouths but sadder, sobering memories.

I think one of the away grounds I liked most was Gresley. (Probably get stick for that?).

As for Tamworth: like the Town. LOVE the pubs. Meh about the Club. Been chased, threatened, sworn at and insulted in or around The Lamb. A few times. Inevitably such memories colour one's viewpoint.

It was great going back there pre-season

Spurs score in extra time

Tamworth should be looking forward to a replay. Disgraceful
