The Current Squad

( Only the current squad and no digressions over investment or future grounds, please. All in good time. Now is not the time).

I've seen more Boro (Town) games this record-breaking season than over the previous three. Mostly home but some away also. What has drawn me back time after time has been the quality of football. This has to be a reflection on the standard of coaching, the level of recruitment and the backroom management. Also, (I have to confess, as a convert to artificial surfaces) playing on a surface which encourages fast one touch or two touch football.

The squad have played their part in this and I have been frankly astonished at the ability level of the players we have managed to attract. Second only to the commitment and dedication they show when representing the club. A commendably different attitude to some of the other players we've seen in stripes over the years. Despite a few having physiques more like Gladiators than footballers, they are also evidently fit. It is apparent to me as an ex-coach that they train hard and look after themselves. I would have hated to have come up against them in my playing days.

At the heart of this success have been Acco and Doddsy . There is real and very obvious chemistry there and it rubs off on the squad . If you watch the interviews with them, although they are chalk and cheese they love the club the fans and the players they are responsible for. I stood by their dug out throughout Saturday's game. They love their football, they know what they are doing: when to praise or when to chide. And this motivates the players. It has to.

This unity is something we have been missing for several years. I hope we retain ALL the squad, including backroom, our Bermudan keeper and Essen if and when he returns. They should do an open top bus up and down Eastboro way as they really HAVE brought credit back to the town and indeed to the NBBC catchment.

Take a bow boys!

1. I read that elsewhere on this Forum:

2. I also read that previously Acco had a coaching connection:

3. I also read he had at one time been on our books:

4. He made a reassured debut against Stapenhill:

5. I also heard he might be interested.
