Boro Ranger Chant
Views: 953
Whats the situation with Boro Rangers Chant there was one or two female supporters didnt take kindly to the chant... considering we like to sell ourselves as a family friendly club this chant goes against this.
I think we must be careful not to turn away female supporters from the club. Be interested to hear the thoughts of LH on this.
We can have cheeky and naughty chants.. but i just feel this particular chant goes too far...

Was so proud of everything Nuneaton Town until.......
Pointless, mindless, offensive, unhelpful obscene chants started from the Boro Ranger wannabees.
Not really what you need if you want to encourage families and children to come along and support the club.
It was great to hear the singing that got behind the team, but once it reverted to the Boro Rangers chant it just made you cringe.
Do these people want to be part of a club that is respected throughout the league ? Not the way to go about it !

Footballs changed, TC.
It’s meant to be a more welcoming environment.
Whether you think that’s right or wrong, it’s how the world is and should be.
When I take my 5 (6 next season year old girl along), should I be faced with the prospect of “what do they mean daddy”?
The club needs to be getting ALL fans in and interested, not some put off because of a few others seeing it as their way and their rules.
I’m not saying the lads singing are doing anything particularly wrong by the way, we’ve all (I’m not gonna pretend to be an Angel when I was a youngster cause I wasn’t, but now I’m older I see things differently), sung borderline stuff that some don’t like, just to be a tad more respectful.

Society has changed though.
In 70s it was much more about morals - so looked down on swearing poor behaviour etc nowadays about all the isms and hate speech.
I can even remember people being told off for booing the opposition onto the field at Manor Park because it was poor behaviour. Now it would be seen as part of the game.
Thankfully a lot of the violence from hooligans has disappeared.

Reminds me of a friend when watching a game on TV with his son (times of Beckham).
A chant was clear, and my friend knew his 7 year old son could hear it.
with fear his son started to ask a question....."Dad; why would Beckham take Posh Spice to Arsenal". :)
Similar with my eldest.
His 1st game was Man United vs Bolton Wanderers.
We warned him he would hear bad words and he was not to repeat them. We never said what the words were.
a few days later my wife heard him singing in his bedroom "W****** W****** Wonderers".
I also told my nephew to be quiet at his 1st villa game as players had to concentrate.............he apparently was very confused by my advice :)

Boro Rangers are actually a team, who play in the 'Northern League Division One', also Step 5.
Perhaps we should have a pre season friendly...

Sadly its from anti social small group of supporters who think cause they sing that vile chant their better supporters than everyone else. When requested politely by club officials to not sing it, the group act aggressively.
We want an atmosphere but nothing that will upset or offend supporters. Choose a different chant or create a new chant or amend the words.

I hate to suggest banning orders but i do think if certain fans consist on singing they should be banned. Lets leave that chant in the past. We have fantastic better chants... thats more inspiring rather than a chant that makes us sounds like morons.
I took my wife yesterday who attends a few games, she loves the boro chants and joins in but even she said she won't go if that particular chant becomes the norm again.

There is/was a Code of Conduct for supporters to minimise any possibility of FA reportings. This sort of potential negative behaviour seems to be a regular occurrence that should be followed up and managed by the people behind the scenes. Unfortunately they won't be totally transparent to the paying fans.

Maybe so yes some of the lyrics might be distasteful to some of you but it’s a chant it creates a atmosphere the last thing the club needs is to lose fans due to a distasteful chant Christ sake it’s non league not higher 🤔🙄

Witty Alternative, that was.
I love a bit of irony as a few of you know
One of my favourites remains "One Georgie Eliot," (etc) as sung at Dorchester. Followed by " Who the **** is Thomas Hardy?"
I realise that as an Outsider with only "Warwickshire" on my birth certificate, and as a volunteer at the GEH I should not really be able to understand that, but I thought it was very clever at the time. And original.

Another good alternative chant ideas could be something like
Every week we follow,
The boys in blue n white,
We created own club in 2024,
The Boro Boys from Nuneaton,
We travel near and far,
You'll hear us signing,
From the town's far and wide,
Allez, Allez, Allez,
Allez, Allez, Allez,
Allez, Allez, Allez,
Allez, Allez, Allez

It’s a tricky one when I was young (a long time ago) I defended the swearing behind the goal - it’s part of the passion and atmosphere. A policeman hit me on the back of the head twice in consecutive games. So I understand where you are coming from. As you get older you grow out of it and realise how bad it is. Your chant is pretty bad hopefully you can moderate it if women and children are around. Up the Town/Boro.

I have no idea about the contents being talked about, but can guess.
SPECTATORS
Spectators should:
* Show due respect to match officials and others involved in the game.
* Not verbally abuse match officials.
* Encourage and show positivity towards all players.
* Not applaud or cheer foul play.
* Show respect for the opposition team, its officials and supporters, no matter what the score or situation in any particular game.
* Never verbally abuse a player, coach, official or spectator based on their appearance, race, religion, gender, sexuality, age, or disability.
* engage in racist, sexist or homophobic chanting.
* Not use inappropriate language or engage in aggressive behaviour.
*The club operates a zero-tolerance policy on the illegal drugs. The club will take strong action against anyone identified carrying or using these articles.
* Never encroach on, or throw any items onto the pitch or its surrounds.
* Always have regard to the best interests of the game, including where publicly expressing an opinion on the game, including others involved in the game.
