Yeovil 1 Boro 3

13 years ago today. A grand day out with a Gas Head who has attended a few Boro games with me over the years.

We definitely weren’t playing Yeovil in 2012.
They came 4th in league 1 that year

Apologies: the year was 2000

I had to check my Stalkbook "memories" there.
We did definitely once win there. Unless I was kidnapped by aliens on route to Rothwell. I think they may have been playing elsewhere? Dorchester?
Or was that when the injections in my head began?
Anyway. I saw it. Such a result highlights the long road back to wherever the current Boro Town are headed. That was my point in posting it, really.

I was at the game you’re on about
And weirdly could name all 3 Boro scorers off the top of my head
Drew Broughton, Ged (not Gez) Murphy, and Shaun Wray

We played Yeovil at Dorchester early in a season when Yeovil were doing upgrades to their ground, a roof on the home end I think

Parking was a bugger wherever we played that day.
I also think we may have played Dorchester at Dorchester. I think they built their newish stadium on the proceeds of Supermarket deals.
I am fairly sure I have been to the old Yeovil ground too.
Stattoes...where are they when you need them?

I was at the opening game at Dorchester.
Lovely stadium, but stand didn't offer any protection from the rain.
Passed it a year or so ago...... it's not aged well

Yeovil Town played the Boro at Dorchester Town's The Avenue Stadium at the start of the 2002/2003 season, because their pitch at The Huish was being relayed.
Their home game against the Boro at The Avenue was played early in the season in August...Yeovil won 3-2...the attendance was 2,504
Yeovil went on to win the Conference in that season by a record number of points & were promoted to the Football League.

one of the BIGGEST dumps i have ever been to
was Middlesboro's old ground v QPR.... a feckin 0-0 too
especially when you think it was the venue for at least one world cup game ( 66 )
could you envisage it nowadays !!! light years away
old wooden like stands etc !!!
seats placed on an *open end terrace.
*which had been removed when i went
one of my sheds beat the tea bar ;-)

I'm sure I've been to The Huish, too. We played them there a few times. Last was a 0-O in 2001 I believe.
I had a friend who once lived in Somerset so I went to a few West Country games and stayed over.
Tiverton. Weston. Weymouth, Dorchester? Yeovil. And of course, (him being a Gas Head) at The Memorial Ground.
Did we play Clevedon Town? I've definitely been there. And Minehead.

Minehead was Sept ‘77. Rubbish ground, open fields along one side. Drew 1-1

If my memory serves me correctly we played half of the academy side that day. We were playing Chippenham at home the next day. Won 3-0 at Cleveden but lost at home to Chippenham who did the double over us. We did beat them in the playoff final though.

Spot on!
09-10 towards the end of the season we had Truro, Tiverton and Clevedon away in the back half of that season
I reckon I could get most stuff right between 98 and 2013. Other than that, rubbish

Nearly right.
We played Clevedon away on the Saturday and then Chippenham at home on the Sunday to get the games finished at the end of the season (had to play 4 times in 6 days).
Won 3-0 at Clevedon with goals from Spacey, Moore and Marsden, with Acco in goal. It secured us a home tie in the play offs. We then lost the next day to Chippenham.
More about it on page 66 here.

I have never been their old Huish Stadium.
I have been to their new Stadium & experienced buying the worst food I have ever bought at a sports stadium anywhere...football, rugby & cricket.
The best food I have ever enjoyed eating was at Kidderminster Harriers...their home made Cottage pie & gravy & the pie/mash & gravy at Twickenham!
Edit:
I went with my mates to the game at Dorchester & we parked in a field opposite the Stadium...there was loads of parking available!
From memory, the Away End was an open terrace?...the Home End was a covered terrace.

Yeovil and Dorchester
Views: 876
In March ‘76 I was a student in London. Caught a train to Yeovil on Wednesday afternoon, saw Boro’ scrap a very rare win 1-0 on the Huish slope (Malcolm Phelps). I was outnumbered 2000-1 by home fans. Caught train back, changing trains (and stations) at Dorchester, arriving at Waterloo in early hours. Still made lecture at 9am. Tell the kids of today and they wouldn’t believe it!
My visit to Dorchester was another midweek game, in May ‘79. A 1-1 draw (Smithers) notable for a backs-to-the-wall defensive display by Boro’, marshalled by manager Roy Barry, playing as sweeper in his first competitive game for several seasons. Apparently, Cliff Campbell missed the team bus, so Barry had to step in.
Thanks as always to ‘From Town to Town’ for correcting/confirming my memories of distant events.
