Interesting.

We were standing dressing-rooms side when the lineswoman sorted the referee out in getting the correct decision to send off their keeper. She stood her ground and the bloke next to us told her well done. He was her father and he also was the linesman at Aylestone on Tuesday night (far side). He told us that during their late equaliser there were two Aylestone players offside when the cross came in but he considered them to be inactive hence no flag. He was a pleasant bloke and quite proud to be still officiating at his age. He also told us that the match day officials cost around £155 per game.

The King is dead. Long live The King.

For a league game, it costs £65 for the referee and £50 for the assistants. And in this league no travel expenses for refs are paid but they are in the Midland Football League.

Keeper

I felt a little bit sorry for him as once he'd advanced that far he had little option but to try a flap at it. He also thought he'd got away with it but seemed ok with the altered decision when she intervened. He walked right beneath my seat in the stand on his way to the dressing room. He wasn't grumbling or complaining.

The Lineswoman was 100% correct. We all applauded her for standing her ground. The ref bottled it initially and probably felt that he was just being kind. But them's the rules. Handle outside the box and you walk.

The really odd thing is...we seemed to go off the boil for a while after he went. Their stand in keeper made some decent saves.
