Back to football. (For now).
There's a game at the Oval on Sunday. All pay, so that plus any merch and associated income will help contribute to any plans for the future. However grounded, fanciful or aspirational they be. ( Not a dig..just covering all bases).
Just think: if about 700 of us hadn't stuck with this latest reincarnation.....
Hopefully further progress in the FA Vase-a new competition for Boro' I believe? Sandiacre Town. I know nothing about them except my old Ian Allan Shed Directory tells me it's the station to get off at if I want to bunk Toton (18A).
I will be bringing along our latest and most dedicated fan. I'll try to persuade her to leave Hudson at home.
Beduff should be clear by 2pm?

All the Colonel Blimping and jargon in the world does not mask the fact that between all the empire building, cock waving and dream spinning there still lies a very long road . A road back to anywhere near where we fell from.
That continues tomorrow and if anyone is on board with any aspiration to return or restore anything, fixtures are also important. Wherever they take place.
Just out of interest-what is the prize pot for victory at Wembley?

Love that Sauce - Excellent use of the English language - Stephen Fry would be proud of that ;)
As for Vale View - if it does happen you can always use your sat nav to find it ;).
That was a joke so do t take it seriously the war is over.

Yeah - not convinced VV will ever happen but who knows really. Wish the council would actually back the club but can’t see that either.
After all the shite the last few years it’s good to see it going in the right direction. Let’s hope all the past horrors never happen again.

Don't be too dismissive of NBBC's financial involvement.
Once NTFC have started to get their teeth into the project & can demonstrate their will to succeed by making good commercial decisions, I think the Council could be willing to come onboard.
Whichever site is developed, they are all Council owned.

Dad took me in 1983- he was a rep and we rode up the long road over all the rails - the Bobby stopped him and as he had a suit on said he was going to the shed office on a call. A sea of BR blue- happy days for me.
Only a shadow these days sadly.

Piece of cake on a Sunday. Very large area for the Foreman to keep his eye on. Nothing moving. Class 45's in the Main repair Depot. All the roof panels off & the tops off the massive Power units exposing the Cylinder heads lying in the Walkways. Class 25's up on Lifting jacks with the Bogies rolled out having Traction Motor swaps - the sights & smells only bettered by being up the back of the CABE on a Matchday.

Nine Elms, Fratton, Norwich, Doncaster, Derby, Tinsley, both Readings, Banbury, Rugby, Swindon (works and Shed) Crewe Works (permit) Worcester, Tyseley, Oxley, Stafford Road, Ripple Lane, Knottingley, Shirebrook, Skipton, all three Yarmouths and loads more.
But curiously never..(blushes)..

Youre not the only one. To my eternal regret I never went round Nuneaton steam shed, as I was too frit as a little lad. My best mate at time lived right by it and was always trying to get me to go round. Talking of loco sheds remember doing Hither Green aged 13? and we would casually wander across from platform end, avoiding the 3rd rail, by staying on boards.
Friendliest bunch, late 60s, were at Finsbury Park. I recall the West Indian maintenance guys would even let you sit in the Deltic cabs.
No management around at weekends?

I walked over the boarded crossing from Wheat Street with some older mates one evening after Junior School. As I re-call we got as far as the Shed Apron before being ejected. An advantage of being Born & Raised in Nuneaton I suppose.
I have no Affinity to Steam Engines - Diesel & early Electrics all the way. The 1st time I went to Manchester Passenger trains over Woodhead were still Class 76. Saw Tommy after it had been reduced to a pile of Scrap in the Melt Shop at Crewe Works.
Selhurst, Eastleigh, Ipswich, Frodingham, Nottingham, Westhouses, both Leeds, Oxford, Northampton, Gloucester, Saltley, Bescot, Old Oak Common, Barrow Hill, Hammerton Street all three Newcastles and all Scotland.

During the dark days of JG Liberty way hoof ball a class 37 passed by and it was the highlight of the afternoon for some of us - it even got a mention on the forum that night as the best bit of entertainment of the afternoon.

I will ignore that slight on steam locos. I just liked railways. Still do. Steam or diesel and yes, hydraulics in particular . I have three Westerns, two warships a Hymek and a D6300 amongst my collection. 00 gauge alas, not the real thing.
I took loads of photos of the 47's (mostly) on the Sunday engineering drags at NTV. Remember those? 1980's was it?

Sunday drags in the 1980's from Nuneaton to Birmingham produced Loco's of the following Classes:-
20, 31, 37, 40, 45, 46, 47, 50, 56 & 58. Drags South towards Rugby (infrequent - Mostly Overnights from Scotland) were Pairs of Class 25's & single 47's.
Class 56 on the drags from March 1980, Class 58 from April 1984. I didn't Photograph them very much as I was riding on them.

D423 was the 1st class 50 I saw at Nuneaton (1970's). Came Down from Crewe on a Rootes Car Parts Train bound for Gosford Green. Nuneaton men forward so they didn't sign it. They had their own engine (25 or 47) which relieved the 50 to allow it to return Light Engine to Crewe with the same Driver & Secondman. I wondered at the time if I would ever ride on a Cl50 working a Timetabled passenger Train at Nuneaton & had to wait until 15th May 1988 when 50009 was on the drags. Had it out of Nuneaton & back in again. Cl25's Technically did work the drags as a couple of Summer Saturdays/Sundays saw them Put on/Taken off the Euston to Cambrian Coast Trains but the Electric Loco was Removed/Added at Nuneaton. Hydraulics in my OO Gauge Model Railway collection:-
Hymeks (Hornby) - 50, Warships (Bachmann/Lima) - 30, Westerns (Hornby/Lima) - 30, D63xx (Hornby) - 10.

Settle to Carlisle is fantastic. Its a regular commuter train but also has someone sharing info about the route and selling merch etc.
Smardale Gill Viaduct, a bit further up from Ribblehead, is really good too. There is a nice walk through the nature reserve where you can spot red squirrels if you're lucky.

Hope is not a plan.

When we were moving from Manor Park one of the areas we looked at was where Tracey’s Cafe and the car showrooms are now. I’m sure one of the reasons for not allowing the ground to be built there was because it was previously a landfill site. Wouldn’t this be a ready made excuse for the council to reject our plans for Vale View?

The Council steered the FC into that area, then after taking good money for surveys/suitability reports - whatever, decided that the land around that location was 'Contaminated'.

Wasn’t it more to do with a chemical facility at a nearby factory unit.
As for that land it was the former clay pit of Haunchwood brick and tile no3 yard on Bermuda rd- another landfilled site. Build around them not on em.

If the land was contaminated it could be remediated.
That is not a decision to be made by NBBC, that would be a decision to be made by the Developer, after assessing the commercial cost/value of paying for the remediation works.
It shouldn't have any bearing on a Planning decision, if the Developer decided the site was still viable after paying for the remediation works.
