We all regarded Clay Cross as the Junction where the Derby to Sheffield line met the Nottingham to Sheffield line (Erewash Valley). It had a smell of it's own due to the large Coking plant nearby which always had a couple of pairs of 20's in the marshalling yard.
A few years later when they said that John Lowe came from Clay Cross I knew roughly where they meant.
Never really associated it as being 'close' to any depot although Westhouses (Bunked around one Sunday Teatime) was between there & Alfreton & Mansfield Parkway.

There ground is well out of Town. They are at home next Saturday will try and get. Ground looks very basic from the outside.

Mid - table in the UCL premier north .
There ground has always been notorious for having a poor pitch . Was certainly still the case a couple of seasons .

A friend of mine (from Nuneaton, Boro fan) follows Beverley Town where he lives and he said they were in the same league the other year and Clay Cross didn’t play a single home game after October because the pitch was so poor
