Last night’s gate
Views: 1114
I was a little perplexed with last night’s attendance of 401. Given that we’re now 20 points ahead, what more can they do to get them to keep acoming ? More than a little disappointed.
And was last night’s referee doing his first game ? He needs to take a look at the video and reflect. That was the worst performance of the season from a referee in my opinion.
Rant over, onto to Yaxley on Saturday, who have lost their last 6 games, scored 2 and conceded 24. A must get three points with no excuses for the lads.
Little by little.

Two home games in a week, just before payday for a lot of people. Not a big 'name' opposition.
Grateful for everyone who comes and supports us over in Bedworth.
But get your point, always good to get more people through the gate and watching us.
400 is what the playing budget is set for next season IF we go up.

Northampton Who? are possibly not the most attractive proposition on a Tuesday night.

Gracious in the bar after the game and wished us well (despite the histrionics at points in the game) . Its a decent place to go and watch sport too. Football, egg chasing and cricket all in one location with a brilliant bar. Enjoyed the honours wall with info on all of their players who have represented their country.

I was not demeaning Chenecks btw, just pointing out that irregular followers (and not Season Ticket holders) might have glanced at that match and decided to watch some tv game instead . Some folks would probably give it a miss even if we were playing Northampton Town.
I guess in future histories though, some of us will look back fondly over this era and visits to Oadby and Aylestone.
Having missed Grantham through ill health, I drove three hours along the M4 and M40 yesterday to get there by kick off last night. ( Not the furthest journey either, talking to Mr. Clough earlier). Part of my journey took me through Marlow. Oh The memories.

Marlow was a night game I was there but I can’t remember the score
Our office was based in MK and I would try and organise meetings around Boro’s midweek schedule as from memory we played a few teams in that area Swindon Supermarine away in midweek rings a bell as you say happy memories

We have Leighton Town midweek too from memory in that era in that sort of area. (mk)

Doncaster. Altrincham. And of course Middlesbrough. Spring to mind. Thought nothing of it at one time. Tuesday night however, was a hard slog compared to those good old days.

Braintree on a Thursday night after work. That was grim. And freezing. But Lee Burge made the best save I’ve ever seen by a Boro keeper

yes remember that save. your not far wrong.
remember one from Les Green that takes some beating, point blank stop from a header.
probably one of the smallest keepers in stature to ever excel
might have been Bedford away
*still rate Bill Baxter as the classiest ever to wear the shirt.
as ever its all about opinions.
*going off on a tangent ;-)

That save at Bedford won Boro the game. Were 2-0 down at half time, Came back to win game 3-2 in second half. I think Richards Hails and Crawley got the goals but not 100% on that.

I agree about the gate, but not the Ref. Don't see that he did much wrong. One or two decisions that I felt went the wrong way in their favor, but I'm sure their supporter(s)? thought the same the other way round. There was a lot of pressure from their manager and coach with constant shouting and holding their heads in their hands after every decision. Their players went down too easily and often wanted the game stopped for head injuries, which is difficult for a referee in these times. I thought he did well when he ignored their player laying on the floor as if poleaxed and in agony to let the game carry on for Boro to score their first goal. Quite a few refs would have stopped the game.

Yes they would have . Seen it done. That example is perfect. He was aware that there was a NOC player down. Also aware he was making a bit of a meal of it. He checked with a glance and then allowed the game to continue, as the player on the deck was nowhere near play and not likely to prevent the attack. Correct decision. Which surprised me.
The NOC staff were still giving him verbals as they walked up the tunnel at half time. Should have been carded for that.
So many of our opponents resort to rolling about and feigning death like this. Poor coaching. Just breaks the play up. Which is not going to deter an attacking side like Boro' for long. Classic example last night. Gobby number 2 with the lovely tied up hair. 50/50 with Kyle second half. Screamed like a stuck pig and collapsed, rolling about in "agony." Free kick (incorrectly ) given then leapt to his feet with cries of "another miracle!" from the Boro faithful.
Concentrate on marking players like Kyle, lad. It must hurt running into him but don't cheat like that?

If a player goes down in agony and then gets straight back up he should be booked for ungentlemany conduct.

Unfortunately this is something that is on the increase in the modern game. It was once called gamesmanship, then play acting, but never by it's real name of cheating. Actions such as this are to gain an unfair advantage so should be dealt with accordingly.

I agree.

In fairness the player who was down when Jards scored was genuinely winded. He had a full on (but accidental) collision with another player.
Those feigning injury and then jumping up a la "it's a miracle" once they have conned the ref into a free kick should be penalised.

I heard several people last night mentioning the "work" word when discussing the lower attendance, Some people also work away midweek and others have shift patterns they cannot always get out of.
Our most fervent supporter, (Mr. Clough excluded) was not able to attend last night as, due to a 7.45pm kick off I could not possibly get her back home to Nuneaton until gone 10pm. That's probably too late for a school night. Other than the (extraordinarily loud!!) Ambleside mascots, there were not so many kids there as you might see on an ordinary Saturday.
Greg and I stood watching together second half and we both feel that some of the stayaways might be well advised to try and get in to see this unique squad before this unique season comes to a close. Bus stop in Beduff, Tinpot League, pub teams or not ( don't buy ANY of that btw), that would be my advice to any one who signs themselves UTB. Come in and see them. Quick. So few games left now. Putting dosh through the turnstiles will only advance any return to Nuneaton.
Always taking a perverse standpoint, I thought that the ref was not the worst I've seen home and away this season. Not top drawer, either and a bit confused at times over who was actually supposed to be making the decisions but not the worst.
The build up and finish to the goals was scintillating. No other word will do-watch them again if you don't believe me! The result and standard of the performance was a great credit to the squad and the management team. With Callum and a few others missing the levels could have dropped. They did not. That was a gritty team performance.

Could be,but Saturday’s was an under-par 417. Our average seems to be about 570. I was only mentioning it out of concern.
