Is the non-league Pep not at Barwell?
I wonder is “work and personal commitments” would have made him step down if Barwell not in the bottom 3?
]
After recent discussions with our manager, Jimmy Ginnelly, he has decided due to work and personal commitments to stand down as first team manager of our football club Barwell FC.
Damion Beckford-Quailey and Andy Wilson will take control of the team from

I watched most of the JG era home games and was one of the few who stuck their head above the parapet and criticised his methods and involvement.
He was brought in by the biggest fool in Boro history, Nick Hawkins who waltzed in and told everyone he was the panacea for all the clubs ills. He said Boro fans had told him to bring JG in. My opposition to JG was the fact I never believed he had the ability to run a club at Boros level and that his level was top amateur or bottom level non league. I did give him a chance but what transpired was horrific. First of all the football was appallingly bad - he would sign anyone and his dog and when criticised he would then go on social media and slag the clubs fans off who dared show any unhappiness at what they were paying to watch. This happened after a defeat away to Berkhampstead when he famously told those unhappy to come and see him “ if they knew where the ground was”. He described those who were critical of him as the bastards in his social media posts and he ruled the club as an autocrat refusing to step away from managing as he owned the club. All that was totally unprofessional.
The list goes on.
Some of us at the time took a lot of stick for opposing him - private message insults, social media insults and some apparently were even threatened.
I was told that I wasn’t real Boro fan, that i didn’t attend games and that I never used the kiosk or the club house - I used the kiosk at every game. I even helped design and procure the disabled shelter for the coop for no fee - I was a member of the coop.
Others opposed him such as VS - now me and Vs are polls apart on politics and have had plenty of spats regarding that but everything VS said about the JG tenure was correct.
Sadly while it was all going on plenty of Boro supporters still believed JG was the savour of the club and opposed any criticism of him. They were all proved wrong - the biggest regret from that era is that quite a few long term Boro fans gave up - some have not returned - I’m one of em - after 40 odd years support the whole sorry saga left a bitter taste in my mouth and one or two who were involved in the JG tenure are involved in the new club. That disturbs me in the fact that no adequate explanation has been given into their involvement in what went wrong related to debt and failure to pay the rent. They probably did nothing wrong in which case there is no reason not to tell the truth.
My biggest regret related to the whole sorry saga is that the new club wasn’t begun after Thorne cleared off - we may have been back to where we were when we went under by now- who knows.
Let’s just hope that the days of failure are finally left to the ages.
As for JG - his biggest crime was Hubris - sometimes in life you have to admit your limitations whatever your heart says - sadly for him he didn’t.

I never supported him. I never spoke to him. Or Neal or Thorne. Etc. I could not ever bring myself to go to Barwell.
( This season was my first visit there).
I have enjoyed this season more than any other except for last season.
I have spoken to all of the current management people. I have no doubts whatsoever that they would ever contemplate the return of JG.
If they ever did I would be off immediately.

fwiw i think your last line is spot on.
what i will add.... he hasn't been the only one to fuck this club up.
its history is a catalog of mismanagement
success comes and goes BUT too many have chased the impossible dream.
as for the present...... lets hope past lessons have been well and truly learnt
we will see.

What you say is right. I told anyone who listened ,when JG came into the club ,that it would not end well. The problem is that to most fans the 'Boro' is like family, or a beloved pet ,which at that time was not well. We wanted someone to make it better and the people running the club, including some involved in the new regime, like you say, saw JG as the man for the job. This was never likely to work because of his very limited abilities. The football served up during his tenure was some of the worst I had witnessed since supporting the club. He did not take criticism well, even if well intended , and bit back at anyone who questioned what was happening to the club , both on and off the pitch. I wish, in hindsight, that the club had been left to die rather than to endure the pain and suffering we were put through.

My question is, would the two 'Commercial' Board members who sit on the new Club's Board have had the necessary experience of being able to run 'Town' if they had not worked with/alongside JG at the Boro?
I would suggest that experience was invaluable to them in better understanding the challenges & demands of running a football club, particularly one that aspires to represent a town the size of Nuneaton.
So, yes we can all give our opinions in hindsight!

not sure its a new board after over 2 years ....
i can only speak for myself , but it was invaluable to the club in the early days .... myself i have grown into the role . listened and learnt and i do a lot day to day in terms of the football club ....as i am better suited as my work allows more than others . now its we all muck commercially in so to speak ...it might sound corny but we are as much as a team off the pitch as we are on it
its worth noting lee davies was also vice chair at cov utd for 2-3 years .
i maybe biased , but this is the strongest in touch board of directors in decades as i can remember . we are an open book and very visible on match day. ...but i will let others judge that

Your second last paragraph is very relevant.
If JG had closed the Club down after Hawkins left & walked away, would a new Town Club have been formed at that time?
Or has the JG era promoted the new Club's formation & cause after his departure.
We may never know?
Just my thoughts!

I think that you just need to look around on a Boro match day, home or away,to get the answer. If the rent had been paid then we would still have been on constant life support at Liberty Way. But that’s it from me,I can only regurgitate so much of that rotten past.
Little by little.

IMO, JG's tenure at the Boro has served, by default, to act as a catalyst for the formation of the new Club.
I'm not sure that inspiration or working experience would have been present, had JG closed the Boro down & walked away, after Hawkins left.
Just my thoughts!

Re: Jimmy gone

I don't think he'd ever come back to the Boro as he wouldn't be running the show like last time. When he was manager and owner it wasn't Nuneaton Borough FC it was Jimmy Ginnelly FC. The amount times he used to say "my club" used to get right up my nose. Wouldn't be surprised if that's him done with management now, don't think any other club will go near him.
The club is a better place without Jimmy around, he can come support the club like rest he's welcome to as long as he pays his way at the gate but nothing more than that. A lot of fans refused to come while he was in charge.

Must be a massive sigh of relief in Barwell. Of couse his departure has nothing to do with the fact that they look to be in danger of relegation again. Unfortunately he always seems to land on his feet so will most likely be taken on at some other unfortunate club.

2-0 at half time; 2-4 by full-time.
I am sure the tactical genius thats AD will save the day !!!!!!!!!!
I am sure it wont be JG fault.
(I think I am right), but if they get relegated then then probably the same league as Boro (and hopefully Bedworth)...
Could Atherstone also get promoted?

JG is glorified Sunday league coach, in fact what I understand the year we made the play offs in 2023 he barely got involved with the training it was all Andy D and the other gal that came in Hannah. He would just pick the team on a Saturday even if didn't attend training. Speaking to players who briefly played under him, he'd basically play his mates and some players would come in barely even do a training session midweek and suddenly they would be in the starting XI even if they weren't fit.

Same with us when he was here, in 2021-22 season at christmas we were rock bottom and should have left then, but because he was owner he wasn't going anywhere, the only reason we survived that season was because of Andy D and Hannah came in that January.

I would say that,if circumstances allow,it wouldn’t be the worst decision to bring Danico back for the remaining games. And regarding Barwell,if the coach AD is pulling the strings then it’s a repeat of last season. But really,it’s their business.
