WTF was that?

First The Adders. Better team than us on the day. I've seen better opponents at our level this season and last-but they were positive from the off, kept their heads and deserved their win. No grumbles from me there.
Boro however, were really poor. When did Hoofball return as our team policy? 70% of our passes were skied aimlessly forwards, hacked sideways-or even sliced backwards. This seemed particularly stupid in a gale force wind , on an artificial pitch , with a free scoring but diminutive centre forward. Jardine is excellent on the ground-even with his back to the goal. But he is not nine feet tall.
Playing Pub Team football is asking for trouble. Which is what we got. When we did finally play it on the deck, second half, we looked a better side, had more shape and at least reduced the number of stray passes.
Our M.o M. by a huge margin was Eesa Sawyers. Not just my opinion but shared by the three people I brought along and by many others around me.
Monday? We'll get what we need and we will go up in the automatic position. It's a funny old game.

Can I just remind people what happened on 14th January 2024 at St Ives.
All things being equal Boro will be playing at one level lower next season.

Yep. Maybe. Doubt he was there at The Oval on Saturday, though. If he was, I did not see him.
He won't be at The Butts like the rest of us today, either. If he is I'll eat my programme.
And he is one of the moderators on here. Or was. So I'm probably barred. :-)
(We are on first name terms btw. He can take a bit of bants).

Oh dear Triggers Broom fc seems to be bottling it.
As it goes they’ll get over the final fence - look forward to next season when real pay to watch football gets ever closer.
Surely they can’t do a Devon Loch can they?
At least the ain’t had any points docked - that used to be a given.

I can't see us getting anything Monday Cov have better forward line put 9 past Oadby and second in form league we are 7th with 9pts from 6 games terrible, if we want anything Monday he as to start the team he started 2nd half today Taj was great won the ball got things going and Dec did well but I would play the lad we got on loan from Shepshed at left back because he can play there put Carsley left midfield it worked well today , Eesa was brilliant again at times they had 3 men on him they were well organised great at the back always had men in the box to defend stop playing Hendrie and McGrath sorry just have no pace and give the ball away too much.

Two factions: one by the clubhouse one (mostly kids) behind the goals. Could hear it right over the other side.

Funny old game .... I thought he did nothing again .
Clearly has talent but no end product, struggles to find the end pass IMO.

There were a couple of bad passes but he controlled midfield. The Adders couldn’t get the ball off him, he won possession and distributed the ball well. Play the side that finished the game and we will win on Monday. Atherstone were very good in the first half and defended doggedly in the second. I think if we had played Brown from the start (I think that’s the centrd half who came on at halftime we might have won.

Can't fault much of that BD

Add Hesson too? The subs certainly sharpened stuff a little.
Have to do something about wasting a talent like Jardine though.
He's not a target man. He's a very good goal scoring machine. And he's not seven foot tall.

Exactly as I saw it. We are not playing as we did earlier in the season when using the surface to play a fluid passing game. The hoof ball rarely works against teams who are organised and well drilled at the back, It is even less effective in conditions like we had today. The changes we made at half time gave us more control of the game and we got to grips with their forwards whist creating chances for ourselves. We had chances which on another day would have got us something from the game. All credit to Atherstone though, it was a well deserved win.

I just don't get it. Because of the bounce, when the ball lands, it randomises every pass, turning each one from a near cert at ground level to a random 50/50 in the air. I've seen us play on the deck flowing football time and time again, both this season and last, so I know we can do it. I just don't understand where it went today.
We disposed of Cov Utd at The Oval fairly efficiently previously, so we need to lose any fear of them. We need to forget holidays, work commitments, shift patterns and family ties on Monday and just turn up at The Butts motivated and determined and then play our natural game.
I've probably seen Boro Town win more promotions away than at "home." (Stattoes? Discuss?)

Awful ! awful ! awful! no more said that has not already been said. Well played Atherstone you deserved it . What a disappointing day with so many fans there including myself. Team and management you owe us fans a performance on Monday now !.

It was very disappointing today. Apart from corners hard to see how we would score.
The only amusing part now would be see a Nuneaton team win the league in C*v of all places. Let’s hope Monday is very different!
Great crowd today. A lot of police activity outside the ground but really well run inside.

The side that finished the second half looked much more balanced. Both sides struggled with the wind in the their favour. Bach’s had a very good game

Its fair to say I think that we’ve hit a bit of a sticky patch , which happens to all teams at every level, let’s hope we can play our way out of it , I think it’s pretty obvious that reading one or two post, on here , there’s some who can’t wait for the Boro to fail or worst.

There are three certainties in life - death, taxes and that Boro will always play badly every time a big attendance occurs.
Townyboro will go up and there is no need to panic and they will soon be close to their summit in football unless a new money loaded messiah turns up.

I’ve not seen a single post that suggests people don’t want Boro to do well.
Intrigued where they are.
Probably never known a fanbase so united as it is at present, so there’s no real need to insinuate that some aren’t on board and aren’t wanting us to do well.
There generally seems to be a sense of realism and realistic expectations, acceptance that teams do have blips and that we need one/two points and its job done on an excellent two seasons.
No one wants to see Boro fail imo

The only person who wants Townyboro to fail is JG - in a podcast he did a few years back he said he doesn't want clubs he’s managed to succeed once he’s left.
No one - and that’s me included ( who no longer attends games) wants the club to fail whatsoever even after the dust has settled since the latest collapse.

There's a poster who laughingly calls himself Boro boy who is saying that we should sack the managers if we miss out on the title. He seems to be glorying in our little dip of form at the moment.

Guess we all interpret things differently
I’ve no idea who he is but interpreted his comments as disappointed we had began to struggle and was desperate for us to do well, rather than being pleased

Agee. I think he’s just frustrated.
There is another poster who got close to gloating yesterday and will do so if we don’t go up. Conversely I reckon if we do go up he will start attending again!
There seem a few who decided anything below step 4 wasn’t proper football,

I’m definitely not glorying in our form. It’s been coming but we’ve been managing to get away with results. Now we’re not. That’s the difference. People have been saying for months the defence as been conceding really bad goals. We’ve managed to get away with it mostly. But when we needed to be on it to get over the line we’ve been making some awful mistakes to concede goals and we’ve not been playing well enough to be able to cover up those mistakes
The managers in my opinion should be sacked if we throw it away. Being 20 points clear and not winning it from there would be shocking.
I said I think we would lose to atherstone and cov utd. It’ll go to last game of the season
