"A good think" later
Views: 638
It does not feel that much better this morning though, having slept on it. Yesterday's attendance was 1,711. Saturday's was over 1,500. This isn't a few people hanging over ropes on a recreation ground. The great majority involved were Boro fans and quite a lot were returnees, curious to see what had been going on over the last two seasons. . It was great to see so many old faces returning and frankly they are the life blood of any return to Nuneaton or any further progress beyond UCLS. What they have been served up with consecutively now, is a pale imitation of what we have seen over the last two seasons.
There's an inference (not in fairness from the management or any committees) that we should put up with this and accept it without comment or criticism. I don't agree. That would be fair comment if this was a Parks team or a Sunday morning run out on Pauls Land. But it isn't. It's a well run club now with a sound financial backing and a whole new era of transparency. Fans and supporters (and irregular attendees) have invested capital through the turnstiles, season tickets, donations, over the bars and counters, through purchase of merchandise ,through fundraising mechanisms, via sponsorship and by introducing new supporters or cajoling previous ones to return.
Accepting everything unquestioningly is what got us into a mess before. BoroTown fans are right to comment critically or to ask for answers when things don't seem right. I don't see anything wrong in ambition and aspiration and hope. I see plenty wrong with indifference, apathy and a shrug of the shoulders. I wouldn't take it as far at the poor bloke spilling most of his beer over himself in the stand during the second half yesterday. I don't condone what he was shouting. But I can see why he was annoyed.
It isn't just the fans who need to' have a 'good think' during the close season. Paper and pencils need to come out and strike a few names off retained player lists-if such a thing exists at this level. First to go should be those who have failed to put in a full shift now over the last two crucial games. CU's first goal should be the starting point of analysis when we see the match "highlights." A decent player from an opposing team, who caused us lots of trouble in the home fixture, ran virtually unchallenged from his own half to score. Why?
Next Saturday the playing staff owe those who have invested their time and money and voluntary effort over this season, an apology. On the pitch. If you can't face the heat ,or the pressure is too much, tell the gaffer beforehand and sit it out. No shrugs. No shouting at each other. If you do play, make every pass count, chase every lost cause and put your heart and soul into it. Bleed blue and white. Whether you are wearing pink, orange or bright purple.
Literally-you owe us that.

I think it has to be recognised by the Town's supporters (apologists included) that there is some 'not so clever stuff' happening on the pitch at the moment.
Instead of just finger pointing, I would suggest that the Board, the Management & the Players are all equally responsible for the present situation.
Not to go up as Champions with a convincing win on Saturday at Northampton Sileby Rangers would be UNFORGIVEABLE.

Isn’t this the first time since Boro reformed that they hit even slightly bad form in 2 seasons and Facebook is melting down
Miss the Boro fanbase
Sure they will win the league next weekend - can’t see a part time team at that level keeping up the energy over a week to play 4 games, be fine relax

I think the opposition are more responsible for what is going on on the pitch at this moment.

instead finger pointing ... ironic don't you think?
Good to know that dedication, effort, and showing up for everyone now comes with conditions 👍
But maybe it’s worth remembering… clubs don’t run on opinions, they run on volunteers/people willing to actually get involved.

Apart from one or two, I don't think there is much '"Finger pointing". I only attend home games nowadays, as at my age the travel even to the more local teams is tiring. As a supporter for over sixty years losing games is part and parcel of the football experience ,so does not bother me too much. However, performance does bother me as I enjoy watching football played the right way. The last few home games I have not enjoyed much , as the hoof ball stuff that we have produced is not good to watch and as recent results have shown is counter productive. I believe that had we played the type of football that we were playing earlier in the season then the title would have been ours at least two weeks ago. There is not much change in playing staff so why change the style of play?

I don’t think they have changed the style of play. Windy conditions have not helped, pressure to get over the line and excellent pressing by opposition teams has also not helped. We have also struggled to cope with pace all season.

I can only assume that you see football different to me. The style of football in recent home games has been like chalk and cheese to what it was like even two months ago. We have the leagues highest scorer, how many has he got recently? . I don't think he has changed his game ,but playing the way we have recently has made him a passenger ,who has become isolated from the rest of the team. We do not have particularly tall players or very quick ones either; yet just lobbing the ball upfield plays into the hands of opposition defences who just soak it up and put us back on the defensive again, and, again.

It’s all about confidence. I would say that Collins worked a lot harder than Jardine in Saturday’s game.

It seemed that way yes. But was it because he was working harder or that Atherstone were playing to his strengths?. Even the likes of Jaques, Vincent, or Culpin would struggle to score goals playing in our present hoof it, and hope, style of play.

Agree but when u spend money time and effort to go and give our full support this season home and away with club the team etc and see 2 very poor performances etc it is really unacceptable it feels like we’ve been mugged off

You can look at every season and think the same. Just because it was a relatively easy fun in last season does not mean the same this season. Atherstone, Coventry, March and Histon are as good as us in the day. It’s no big plot it’s football.

i agree
to actually put a club together that not only competed but gained a promotion
and fingers crossed will hopefully do so again has been a remarkable achievement by all involved
especially when you stop and look back at all the shit goings on from previous owners.
ie. classic cases of how not run a football club. by so called professionals
you can only guess on how many hours of hard graft are being put into the clubs well being.
fwiw imo. on the field matters are secondary in comparison to running the club on a stable footing.
again a well done to all involved.

do you know what joe , you are actually bang on ...in the early days i was so focused on the football side , within weeks it became apparent what the club means to so many and so important to the community , it plays a vital role .
i even sympathise with JG now ...the last few weeks its certainly affected my health . last week i was out of the house EVERY night (this week tonight and thursday) ...i need a holiday
as we have seen over last week we have a few willing to bash the club , its tough to take i can't lie .
we are learning on the job and i'm so excited about the great things lie ahead for the club in the coming weeks , month and years

Think the work both of you do should be, and always is, applauded and appreciated.
That should be totally seperate to fans being allowed to be disappointed by back to back 0-2 and 0-3’s and a poor run of form.
FWIW I think we will win convincingly on Saturday and be crowned champions and everyone will / should be extremely happy, pleased and proud of two years solid achievements

The problem is expectations. Not only do we expect to win this league (which her will as long as we don’t lose the keeper) we expect to beat everyone easily - which will never happen.

True. Easy also to point a finger at someone over the garden fence. Criticism comes with more gravitas from people who invest, attend and work behind the scenes.
No conditions involved. Those who are not bothered stay away. This who care get involved. They were there in thousands on Saturday and yesterday.
The rest become Cyber warriors. Quite entitled to their views of course.

I don’t think anyone is criticising the club in anyway. People aren’t happy with the last 6 to 8 games, rightly so. Football is judged on results and performances. Recently both have been poor, so really people should expect fans not to be happy with it at the moment. It’s nothing personal againist the people running the club.
