I applaud what you say; the club deserve the support. However, I feel that many will treat this game as a friendly , as it has no real impact on our season.

See what you are saying but a chance for fans who could not get to our last away game see the league winners trophy and celebrate. Plus will help us financially.

I'm going as it will help the club financially, but it's job done already for me.
Why we all need to got to Stamford for a minor cup final is a mystery, its hardly Wembley.
But handy for the train travellers I guess

Happy to be corrected but is this only the second time in recent memory we have played a Championship play off. The last being Boro V Wealdstone in early 80's Southern League POF Graham Carr was our manager and we lost on Pens at Wealdstone in 2nd leg. Stuart Pearce was playing for them.

I cannot remember us having to play such a game before or since the Wealdstone game. Two of my favorite players were in the Carr side that won the league that year. John Glover, in my opinion, apart from Bill Baxter, the best centre half I have seen at Boro'. Also Barry Lowe in midfield who was such a stylish player.

I’m fairly certain we played one in either the start of 96/97 or 99/00
Ian Reed featured in the kit with the navy sleeves and shorts
I could be wrong, but sure this happened.

Thought it had to be because only Carr, Barton and Phillips have won leagues. I don't recall play off games other than the Wealdstone one; An age thing perhaps. To my mind though winning the league is the ultimate achievement, not some one off cup game which realistically is meaningless.

The game against Rushden & Diamonds followed on from the Boro winning the Southern League Division One Midlands, gaining promotion to the Southern League Premier Division. (Season 1995/1996.)
Kevin Wilkin played upfront for Rushden & Diamonds, alongside their record signing Carl Alford (£75,000 from Kettering Town).
The Boro did the double in season 1995/1996, also winning the Southern League Cup.
The game against Sutton Coldfield Town followed on from the Boro winning the Southern League Premier Division by 23 points (from Boston United in second place), gaining promotion to the Conference North. (Season 1998/1999.)
Edit:
Ian Reed scored the Boro goal in the win against Sutton Coldfield Town.

Yes, you are correct.
The National League North didn't start until 2004, when the Conference National was expanded to 3 Leagues.
Edit:
The Nationwide Conference as it was known in 1998/1999.
