Not being aged, I'm in my seventies. I hope he will do well for us like Baxter, Angus and a few others who joined in their mid thirties. I am just passing on comment from a Telford fan who said he was a good player, but his lack of pace meant he often got caught with the ball often opening them up to counter attacks.

One fan, of course. He has seen James last season though. When was the last time we saw him play? Is any one fans opinion more valid than any others? Incidentally he also said that there is mixed opinion among fans as to whether Wilkin is doing a good job for them too!

As an aside.
There are two well known posters on here who talk in the third person, to hide their own opinions.
One has an imaginary friend.
The other 'overhears' what other people say at games.
I hope SB you are not joining them?

Read the Board Statement on the AFC Telford United website.
They seem very happy with what he has achieved in the last 3 seasons.
He has given their supporters some good times & doing that playing attractive attacking, enterprising football.
A SLPC play-off defeat in his first season.
Winning the SLPC play-offs in his second season.
Consolidating in 11th place in the NLN in his third season.
Good successes in the FA Cup & FA Trophy.
In & around the NLN play-offs (7th or 8th place) all of last season, until a late dip in form in March & April cost them a chance of competing in the play-offs.
All-in-all a good performance from Kev Wilkin & his staff & players, backed up by the Board.

From your post it would seem his job is fairly secure for next season then. Then again Arne Slot' s Liverpool were league champions in 24/25 , yet more recent media reports suggest that many fans are unhappy with him now.

Liverpool are in transition.
Jota's tragic death upset the Club. No-one could have forseen Salah's drastic lack of form. Diaz leaving to join Bayern Munich has been a massive loss. Izak broke his leg. Robertson is at the end of his Liverpool career. Kerkez hasn't settled. MacAllister has had a poor season. Wirtz will improve.
Despite all of that, Liverpool have secured a Champions League place for next season.
Slot wants them to be a controlled, passing football team.
Let's wait & see what happens in the transfer market over the Summer?

without doubting anyone's opinion on Wilkin..... ie. the plus or minus camp
i was led to understand from ( outside the club ) at the time
KW lost his day job and needed to go fulltime !
Ian Neale said NO so he left to go Wrexham ? i recall
now without being biased IMO it was a catastrophic
decision by Neale.
WHY in heavens sake didnt he stick with him
and CUT the playing budget... hence problem solved... as i viewed it.
and what happened we signed a total ???ker of a manager
who in my opinion was one of the worst ever
which i stated as an opinion from virtually day ONE.
people who know me know that is the truth.
if he wilkin had remained who knows.

Any manager of a part time small club in a big league would have been mad not to further his career at a club that had potential to go higher.
It was always going to be “when” and not “if” Boro got relegated so he sis the right thing. As it turned out I think Wrexham were too big for him, too professional with very high expectations.

Stay in a “safe” and comfortable role at Bournemouth or try at a bigger club.

You are correct. It was a poor decision to not offer him a full time position. If memory serves me well I believe things were not going well for Neale, both buisiness wise, and with his marriage which may have clouded his judgement.

just saying as far as i can the actual facts....
ie non football related of the reason why KW left

but i was never in any doubt about his replacement from DAY ONE.
ps i do have to admit my memory is not what it was

Yes Joe. It has been a recuring theme since I started watching the club. We have never built on any success we have had , but seem to lurch from one disaster to another. Manor park was never given any real investment which led us to the ill advised move to Liberty Way. That lasted less than twenty years: a total disaster.

Re: Boeo sign James Armson

But the success was built of very poor foundations.
It’s amazing how many clubs move to new grounds then fail.
Yes; Manor Park was not developed BUT if it was would we have seen the success under Carr and Phillips?
Back to Manor Park - it was actually developed - forced upon mainly due to Bradford.
Before Bradford H&S had not been invented.
Top of my head - only altrincham have really kept their ground upto speed with requirements and they went through a good few years of strife.
Other like Harrogate have had money put in.

Re: Boeo sign James Armson

From the cup success, mid sixties, with really good attendances, to the Carr era, was about twelve/ thirteen years. That was ample time to develope the ground. Had they invested wisely, then a move from Manor park would, perhaps, not have been necessary. Like you say , they only did anything once they were forced to , after the Bradford fire , which put the club in massive debt which accepting an offer for the ground was a consequence. The rest is history.

Liam Daish was a successful Manager at Ebbsfleet United for 8 years before joining the Boro.
On the face of it, a good appointment at the time.
Edit:
Daish was born in Portsmouth & started his football career in the Youth team at Pompey.
He lived in Portsmouth when he managed Ebbsfleet & also during his brief spell with the Boro.
After he left the Boro he returned to coach the Portsmouth Academy for 5 years.
In 2022 he was appointed as the Academy Manager at Birmingham City.
I suspect travelling back & forth from Portsmouth could have been an issue at Liberty Way?

Caine and Armson
Views: 516
Pleased with both these signings .
Don't know much about Caine but he's the sort of player we should be looking at mid twenties yet bags of experience at this sort of level .
As for Armson , felt we had too many 30+ last season but one or two isn't a problem and we all know what Armson has achieved . As for his performances at Telford last season there's a massive difference between the NN & NP1M .
Add these to the players we kept ( so far ) from last season and it seems an encouraging start to me .
