Jardine asks to leave
Views: 835
Kyle Jardine has informed the club of his desire to move on from Nuneaton Town Football Club.
Following positive and constructive discussions between the player, management and the board, it was mutually agreed that it would be in the best interests of all parties for Kyle to leave the club.
As a result, the club has agreed to cancel Kyle’s contract with immediate effect.
Kyle played an important role during his time with Nuneaton Town, and we would like to thank him for his efforts and contributions whilst at the club. Everyone at Nuneaton Town wishes Kyle all the very best for the future.
Kyle said “Going forward balancing the prospect of Step Four football alongside my job and personal life has become increasingly difficult, and I don’t feel I can give the level of commitment the club deserves. This year has been one I’ll never forget. Playing for this club and these fans has given me memories I’ll treasure forever.
Thank you for all the support along the way, and I truly hope the club gets back to where it belongs. 💙

If i had to guess taking into account his reasons for leaving i'd go Coalville .
I believe that's where he's from or lives and he has mates playing there . I would imagine they can pay more than us and their transfer to the Midland league will probably suite .
There will be plenty of clubs after him and some will be prepared to pay big bucks for the level .
It will open up a bit of a can of worms if he's joins a club at step 4 or above .

I think Town supporters need to be careful with their budget expectations next season.
The budget is set at an average home attendance of 400 but that includes 100 U17's (25%) paying £1 on the gate or £10 (early bird)/£15 for a season ticket.
LH explained that very well in his April Treasurer's Report.
It caught them out last season, having such a high percentage of U17 supporters & even though the average attendance was 612 they had to dip into their Summer pot of money to the tune of £18k to subsidise the shortfall.
LH says they have made adjustments for next season, whatever that means?
Please correct me if I have misunderstood what was reported?

I think you need to recognise that the Management duo are both Brummies & a lot of the squad are from the Birmingham/West Midlands area.
They are then trying to bring in players from Leicestershire, who might feel uncomfortable in the mix?
Josh Crossley decided very quickly it wasn't for him & returned to Leicester St Andrews!
I think Kyle just wants to enjoy playing football with his mates, that doesn't cause stress in the rest of his life & if he gets paid well for his goalscoring talent elsewhere then that's a real bonus.
Remember, a lot of these Clubs who are doing well in the lower leagues were once in the Leicestershire Senior League, a far cry from the Clubs in Brum!
The players know each other & they know the Managers.
Just my thoughts!

I don't think it's anymore difficult than that!?
What players need to remember when joining the Club, is that they will be in the shop window.
There will always be scouts from higher league clubs watching Nuneaton, that's a fact.
The Management duo can use that as a plus when trying to attract players to the Club, particularly players that want to progress their own careers to as high a level as possible?
Free publicity so to speak!

Exactly, if Jardine has told Russ and Acco he can't make training twice a week or get time off work to be at some of the evening away games then all parties have a decision to make, which it would appear they have done, the one slightly puzzling thing is why we offered him a contract and why he signed it if he knew he would have to leave ifvwe were promoted, after all we could have held him.to that contract

I think you need probably 5 or 6 players on contract at Step 3 (SLPC), basically the spine of the team.
At the levels below that maybe put a player on contract if you know that he is an exceptional talent that you are looking to sell.
Otherwise, you are going to have to look at what's available on the Deadwood Stage as it passes through town!
Remember JG's signing spree?
38 players in a season!
Some players having previously played at 12+ clubs!

The club will perhaps give serious thought regards offering a contract to any player in the foreseeable future. Giving Kyle a contract has not protected the club from losing its perceived main asset. It seems to me that the contract only protected Jardine's earnings , ie, he was paid whether he played or not. I should think that very few clubs get any fee for a contracted player these days at our level of football.

Town have moved up to a different level.
IMO, you cannot have players picking & choosing which matches they want to play in or whether they want to attend training twice a week or not, that in my book is unacceptable & can only lead to disaster.
If a player cannot commit, then he shouldn't be signed.

I posted about this recently in reply to a point raised by AA2.
The training demands & fitness levels will be greater at Step 4, not to mention the higher technical skill requirements to compete successfully.
It will find out the more inexperienced players.
Mistakes will be more readily punished.
Level of fitness is a personal choice & could demand more time training alone, time that has to be found by an individual.

I think most players who are playing in the lower non-leagues are playing for the enjoyment & in some cases playing with their mates.
Kyle clearly has taken a balanced view & there are more important priorities in his life & the use of his time.
I admire his honesty.
He will continue to play football for enjoyment I am sure & be happy in his life.
I remember when the Boro signed Trevor Morley & Eddie McGoldrick from Corby Town, a third player joined the Boro with them, a young winger (Walker?). He was a decent player.
We all know what Morley & McGoldrick achieved in their careers but Walker left quickly to go back to play with his mates at Corby.
Everyone makes their own decisions & life choices.

McGoldrick was signed from Kettering.
derek walker was signed for a fee from Corby, but was sold back a few months later for similar amount (guess Boro had not paid).
I think I am right in saying he ended up holding the record appearances for Corby. Clearly the club fitted him and he fitted the club.
May only be 50 miles from Corby, but it’s still 90 mins of travel.

I will demur to the opinions of those experts commenting elsewhere in this thread who don't attend matches. Obviously, they have a far greater insight than the rest of us would have, on all football matters from floodlight capacity to 30 goal strikers. Now the Rugby season is over, they have more spare time in which to share their wisdom with us. We are blessed.
However, as I DO attend home (and sometimes away) games I would just like to add that Kyle seemed to be struggling a little bit towards the end of last season. The new improved hoofball style did not suit him, as he is not a six foot three centre forward. Attempts to pair him with any compensatory support were non-existent. He may or may not struggle at the next level. We will never know , now.
Like bert's dad, I thank Kyle for his contribution. He certainly got many of us shrieking with delight last season sometimes with his eye for goal and his talent for turning on a thrup'nny bit

I commend his honesty regarding his commitment. Good luck to him wherever he goes next. As for his struggles towards the end of last season. It was no surprise given the change in style we adopted. Like you said, hoof ball stifled Kyle, and also led to a downturn results wise. We only ,managed six points from the last eighteen in the league, with only one win from our last eight competitive games. VOR is right that the next level will be a far bigger challenge for us than the last two seasons have been. We move on.

It's encouraging to see that the five new signings that Town have made are all from Clubs who played at Level 4 & higher last season.
Those players should have retained the basic core fitness to carry through in to next season.
For me, players fitness will be the key next season, because fitness levels affect concentration.
The players who have been retained from last season's squad will have to prove their fitness to be able to play at Step 4, particularly the older players in the squad.
That is down to the Management & also to the Board to provide the required training facilities.

I don’t think he’s once said that.
I don’t agree with VoR on everything he posts, but similarly I won’t join the witchunt that lambasts him for any opinion he ever has, either.
He’s not said they should formally train more than once or twice a week, at all.
BUT, I think he shares the same opinion as me, and VS, and whoever else, that the higher up the pyramid you go, and remember these lads get paid (albeit not a lot to perform), there’s a personal responsibility to stay in shape and put effort in- eg runs in your own time, gym in your own time, sauna for recovery etc.
I play AMATEUR sport every Saturday in the summer. I pay subs to play. I still ensure I go training each week AND run twice a week in my own time despite a full time job and a 6 year old child else I’d be embarrassed on a Saturday afternoon.

I think you have to realise that even at Step 4 it is going to be a player lottery & this can happen with any player at any time?
It's not until you reach Step 3 where there are some ambitious clubs/aspirational clubs who are looking to progress to Elite level football at Step 2, where you expect to see some players on Contracts & more emphasis on player loyalty, a part of the territory.
Harborough Town are a good example of that & their Stadium development has been completed to allow them to be promoted to the National League North, as Champions of the SLPC.
A lot of the funding towards that cost has been provided by last season's FA Cup run, when they reached the Second Round Proper, losing in extra-time to Reading.
Town need to improve their Cup performances, the FA Cup & FA Trophy will be a good opportunity to increase revenue next season

I think that’s fair.
IMO it was a calculated gamble that he may well move to a higher level and we could command a fee. Once it became obvious he actually wanted a lower level for social reasons no fee was ever going to be commanded and common sense suggested to mutually rescind the contract.
At this level it’s complicated as some better players may refuse to go above step 5 for their own reasons.

They are the model set-up to follow for any small town/village club that has the ambition & aspires to provide a recreational facility to support the Community/activities & functions within the Community.
Vale View could provide such a facility for the residents of Stockingford & Camp Hill & provide a home for Town's Junior football clubs, in the future.
That said, IMO, it needs to go further than that, it also needs to provide a facility that allows Town to return to playing Elite level football, to proudly represent once again the Town of Nuneaton, with a population of circa 90,000.
I'm not sure that can happen at Vale View, it will depend on the planning & any restrictions that are imposed on the future Stadium capacity due to the location & local conditions.
The fall-back position, if that proves to be the case, would be to build a modest Stadium suitable for Step 3 football & no higher.
If that is what is eventually agreed, consideration should be given to staying at the Oval, which, IMO, could be further developed to Level 2/possibly Level 1 standard.
Maybe even a merger between Town & the Greenbacks at that stage?
Just my thoughts!
Edit:
What the Town Board need to avoid at this stage, is just trying to blaze a trail towards building new Stadium at Vale View & end up building something that is not suitable, or worse still running into an immovable Planning roadblock to their ambitions!

Very true. It is only being banded about because, support aside, we are a small club with little or no assets to our name. I should think that to the Bedworth faithfull , any kind of merger, other than a groundshare, is unthinkable.

A certain poster for sure. He wants to spew his usual advice on how the club should be run , and how they shoud be spending money. The majority of our fans are happy to have a club to support, and want the club to grow as Nuneaton without outsider influence. Let's enjoy the ride and see where it takes us!

I think that could well happen in time. One big club for the 2 towns. Brighton and Hove Albion , Dagenham and Redbridge (who are hopeful of signing Jamie Vardy) and on a smaller scale Havant and Waterlooville to name but 3. Nuneaton and Bedworth Athletic perhaps.

Nuneaton & Bedworth United.
There are numerous merged clubs in London & the Home Counties.
From a construction point of view, the Oval is a big site & could be increased to 4,000 capacity (Level 1).
Mimimal work would be needed to increase the existing capacity to 3,000 (Level 2).
The benefit of the Oval being an existing Stadium is that parking is already available in the town & it already has good transport links (bus & rail & taxis).
I would advise both clubs Boards to give serious immediate attention to carrying out a feasibility study to further develop the Oval, as a fall-back position to Vale View.

I agree. The 2 clubs should stay as different entities if at all possible. But what happens should Vale View prove unsuitable for building a stadium. Where do Boro then go. They would probably have to stay at the Oval with no match day takings from bars or refreshments. Only way round that would be to build their own facilities on the ground to use for home match days, but somehow I cannot see Bedworth as a seperate club agreeing to that. Loosing Liberty way was by far the biggest catastrophe ever to hit Nuneaton Borough or Town.

It would leave us no worse off than we are now. We have to accept that as a new club it will take time to get anywhere near the club we once were. Would you expect Bedworth to merge with us knowing our track record?

The higher they go the more money it costs. With very little matchday income apart from gatemoney programmes and raffles. I am sure most if not all Boro fans who buy beer or tea and burgers would rather the money go to Boro than to Bedworth. Under the present arrangement it is not.

We should be greatfull that they have given us somewhere to play. They were doing ok befote they made the offer to us. Running their club like a business; unlike previous incarnations of our club. We could perhaps learn a thing or two from the way they conduct themselves.

Those new facilities (if feasible) would likely need Planning Permission. More planning costs for Town!
Who would pay for the construction?
If you deprive Bedworth United of Boro matchday income from their Bar & Refreshments, is it likely the Greenbacks would look to increase the rent!?
A good thought Dougie but is that a viable solution?

I think it would we wise to investigate the possibility of a merger between the two Clubs now to serve as an ultimate fallback/back-up position, even if it never happens.
It will determine the Commercial position if a merger was ever needed?
IMO, every possibility needs to be explored at this stage, Town cannot just rely on building a new Stadium at Vale View.
Town are likely to be playing at the Oval for at least another 3 seasons, I would suggest longer?
Just my thoughts!

Why do you think it would be in Bedworth's interest to merge with Nuneaton. They have all they need, and would gain nothing at all from any such merger. The club want to move back into town, our fans want us back home, and we want our own identity.

I said it was not a viable option. Not to Bedworth anyway. But Boro will need matchday income if they move up the pyramid. Even clubs we have been playing over last 2 years at steps 5 & 6 have their matchday income, something Boro do not.

We threw that away when we were evicted from Liberty Way. It is a consequence of having to go cap in hand to find somewhere for our new club to play. We have not been in this position before, as we rented, then owned Manor park, and then got the lease at Liberty Way. Yes it is holding us back financially , but we are managing the situation we find ourselves in. With luck, hard work, and a favourable parnership with the local council, we will get back home to Nuneaton. At my age I may not see us in a new home, I hope I do, but meantime I am more than happy to have a team to watch and accept Bedworth's hospitality.

As an aside.
The new 3G pitch at the Oval that was laid recently, will need replacing in 10 years.
That is likely to cost between £250k & £300k.
Bedworth United set up a Retention Fund to replace their old 3G pitch.
I assume they have carried on with that Retention Fund, to provide the funds necessary to renew the 3G pitch again in the future?
The revenue they are receiving from Town will help towards that objective.

Being kicked all over the park
Views: 618
There is one other fact that has been (as yet ) overlooked. Due to his size and shape Kyle is more what us old bast***s used to refer to as an "inside forward." A finisher. Often a clinical one. That was my position as a player. You get kicked all over the place, every game. Sometimes accidentally, if you use a bit of trickery. Sometimes deliberately, and mostly off the ball, as inside forwards tend(ed) to score a lot , and defenders hate having the mickey taken out of them.
I only ever played at a much lower level than Kyle but every Saturday I'd come away from a match black and blue. I had to soak in the bath afterwards so I could see which were cuts and which were bruises. I had a full time job. I could not afford to go into work on a Monday on crutches.
Kyle got far more physical treatment than he deserved last season. Officials gave him very little protection. You could never fault his courage, but maybe a part of him is saying " I'm not sure I want this." Our style also gave him little protection. We expected him to make the chances, as well as score them.
If playing football isn't fun any more, especially at this level you sometimes have to change clubs or reconsider your onfield role and also maybe reconsider the level that is best for you. I really get that. And I really respect it.

In the end of the day he don't want to play for us next season for whatever reason and that's that . Never seemed prepared to get himself properly fit so better suited to step 5/6 . A natural finisher but not irreplaceable at step 4 .

He actually scored around 25 in the league , and i reckon you would be looking at about 15 at step 4 . If he doesn't want to or can't commit to what's required at step 4 in terms of travelling , training , keeping / getting himself fit then i think he's made the right decision dropping down to a lower level .
