All a bit sad, really. I'm a great believer in if the principle of you've got talent, use it. On the basis of:
1. You never know when it runs out and:
2. If you never try to reach your limit you may one day live to wish you had done so.
Que sera sera.

Plumbers and knees
Views: 375
I have a couple of mates who are semi-retired plumbers. Both have had to have knee ops. Years of crawling about under sinks or fitting baths. Neither of them ever played football.
Both made a lot of dosh out of plumbing though.
Yep: Kyle's definitely doing the right thing. All makes sense now.

He had a contract which garenteed his wage but decided to leave, probably going back to non contract, that doesn't garentee his wage.

What’s wrong with ‘taking the easy way out’ if that means being happier?
I have every ounce of respect for anyone in life who does what makes them happy.
If working full time in a good career and playing a level of football at a club he enjoys makes him happy, then good luck to him.
Get back to playing with a smile on your face Kyle, and don’t worry about people who think committing to Nuneaton Town FC is the be all and end all.

Why did Kyle return home?
Kyle Jardine returned to Heather St John's FC because balancing his job and personal life with the demands of playing for Nuneaton Town FC became increasingly difficult. He mentioned that he couldn't give the level of commitment the club deserved, especially with Step Four football. It seems he wanted to prioritize his personal life and enjoy playing football without added stress, which returning to his former club Heather St John's FC might provide. Some fans speculate that he might have preferred to play for a team closer to home or with more flexible expectations, allowing him to play with friends and enjoy the game more. ¹ ²

It would have done something for us if a club higher in the pyramid wanted him. We would have been entitled to a fee.
Earlier in the season, it looked as if he was attracting attention from bigger teams. As far as I am aware, no other club made an offer, so the contract resulted in no benefit for us - but the potential was there.

Re: Jardine

There could be other footballing reasons too. When Kyle signed the contract, Boro were playing great football, passes through midfield and delivering chances for him to convert. As the season progressed, many of us noticed that long balls through the middle were becoming more common than flowing football moves. IMHO, that may not have been the best match for Kyle's skill set - and that may have made him less happy with his position at Boro.
Of course, I may also have misread the situation - I have no inside knowledge at all.

Re: Jardine

I don't think you have misread the situation at all. All players, strikers especially, want to make an impact on the game. Certainly in the last five or six home league games, Kyle was becoming more, and more isolated because of the style of football we were playing. Others have commented that he did not seem happy towards the end of the season, which seemed the case for me too. I only saw home games, so cannot comment on whether this was also the case in away games. As you imply, the long ' hoof ball' game frustrated Kyle, and perhaps, contract or not, he thought it was time to move on. All conjecture of couse, but he has now left the club.

End of the day, a youngish lad has made a decision which he thinks is right for him at this stage of his life.
I don’t see any need to try and work out the ins and outs other than a lad has made a decision which he believes is right and will make him happy.
I find football fans weird though; no one claimed Gaz Dean ‘lacked ambition’ when he reportedly turned down higher level clubs to stay at Boro and focus on a good career off the pitch, but I guess that’s cause he stayed with us to show that ‘lack of ambition’ rather than leaving… funny that

Re: Jardine

Being self employed means he has to take work when he can so my point was that having to drive to nuneaton/bedworth for an extra training sesion next season, having to finish work earlier to get to some of the away games would all cost him in terms of lost income, also petrol to nuneaton/bedworth twice a week for training, all these things i am guessing he has weighed up and decided he is better off going back to Heather. I doubt we were paying him signifcantly more than Heather either

Doesnt matter how much he charges, you get that by having to attend an extra training session.every week, posdibly having to finish work earlier to get to some away games is time he is loosing to make those 80 quids, and he has presumably decided what we pay him doesnt compensate for those lost 80 quids as you put it

He may have thought it was a stepping stone to much higher things. The contract would seem to indicate that.
However now he doesn’t seem to get much higher than step 4 maybe all the travelling and training doesn’t seem worth the aggravation.

Re: Jardine

Which bit?
I’ll try again.
He may have hoped joining Nuneaton would be a stepping stone to much high levels eg conference. The contract he signed would indicate both eh and the club thought this might be possible.
However despite having scored many goals last season it’s now apparent there isn’t interest above step 4.
Now all the travel and commitment doesn’t appear worth it if this is going to be his ceiling.
So he’s happier to play more locally with friends at a slightly lower level.
Do you understand now?

Re: Jardine

IMO, Level 8/ Step 4 is the ideal place to aim for if you want to test your credentials, as a club & a player, to progress any higher?
It is the lowest level of the Trident Leagues (Northern, Southern & Isthmian) & is one Step above the abyss of non-league football, (the County Leagues with hundreds & thousands of football clubs).
If you look at the clubs at Level 8/Step 4 they are mostly small town or village clubs, who are sampling life at that level, while working out what to do next plus a few fallen giants of non-league football.
This is where ambition/aspiration takes over!
Harborough Town, Quorn & Anstey Nomads are examples of clubs that have done exceptionally well, considering their roots were in the Leicestershire Senior League.
Two clubs who Town will be playing next season, Basford United & Mickleover will be familiar to Town's supporters.
I suspect all five of those clubs are being bankrolled by benefactors to some degree.
When it comes to the players with ambitions to play higher, they will migrate to the ambitious clubs, because those clubs will also pay the best wages.
So, back to the likes of Kyle Jardine & choices, he & many others I am sure don't see playing at Step 4 that big an attraction, at the detriment to their happiness in the rest of their lives?
Step 4 will bring that realisation to some players who have never had the ambition/or even the opportunity to play at that level before & the increased demands on their time more importantly if they want to succeed?
Just my thoughts!

It does lack ambition but if that's how he wants to play his football it's his decision .
I'm glad it's Heather as it fits in with what he and the club have said . Certainly wouldn't want it being someone we see as proper rivals like the Adders . From what i've read last couple of days we seem to have a more than adequate replacement in Liam Murphy . Good luck Kyle and thanks for the huge part you played in last seasons championship .

It may ‘lack ambition’ from a football perspective.
But how do we know he hasn’t won a big plumbing contract? The type that could set him up with buying his first house? Paying his parents mortgage off? Paying for an engagement ring and honeymoon? Investing in his long term future and developing his business?
I’d argue that sticking with a step 4/tier 8 football club that hindered your life opportunities to build a good career and future for yourself would be more of a ‘lack of ambition’ for an individual.
